This is an idea which I actually came up with a year and a half ago, but it's a very interesting one.
You could create a link on one forum instance and it could link to another and pull in information.
E.g. Maybe, a forum that is especially a link, could pull in meta information from the linked to forum like the last post, maybe a common feed, etc.

This might be useful to encourage people to setup small groups of forums rather than really big all-encompassing ones or maybe have multiple sites owned by different admins mutually benefiting each other, if they wish it to be so.

The only snag would be inter-software co-operation, as every software runs around doing their own thing and each like their autonomy. That said, perhaps a common feel might be less confusing for users?

Feel free to discuss and tell me what you think. I think it's an interesting idea to say the least.

If I understand this idea correctly, I feel like this could definitely be beneficial to forums with a very specific niche. Given my background, sports forums is what comes to mind. There are tons of general sports forums that cover all of the typical topics, but there's also tons of sports forums that are particularly focus on one individual topic. You see sports forums that are solely about one professional sports team, one college's sports teams, or just one specific sport. This concept would allow these non-competing sports forums to benefit each other, by means of traffic, content, etc.

For instance, let's say you run a support forum for a piece of software, maybe you have a bunch of sub-sites for different languages and what-not, so maybe you could have an index with one link going to the German Site, one to the Chinese one, etc. but it would be nice, if it could show the last poster and some meta on the site automatically.

Also, maybe that could integrate into the newest topics, dunno.

Very interested and confusing link exchange. But how can something like this to be put together!

Link sharing is a good way to generate backlinks and traffic. However, I hear that Google does not like link sharing. I do not have forums however, I have handful of blogs. I have shared my blog links on a couple of forums and other blogs and website. Some of these links are dofollow and some are no follow.
