My forum http://pokeballforums.forumotion.com/ just randomly went dead today. Before everyone was active and posting.

I think its because I removed the chatango chat. That thing was very popular but I was having too many problems with it. I don't want a chat on my forum that I randomly started having problems connecting too. I guess they loved the chatango chat. It made tons of people come on, and it didn't stop my users from posting. Now I removed it and it seems nobody is coming on my forum (except the people I do active/active with)

Hmm, maybe find a different chat box? I would also recommend getting a TLD.

Im only 13 I have no way of getting a top level domain. My parents wouldn't get one for me.

(and btw I put the old chatbox back but they still do not seem to be coming back)

I run a Forumotion Forum and it takes intense Patience. I've only now just started getting good activity without a chatbox.

I use the one forumotion comes with.

Make your forum simple and not too flashy, advertise, get your staff to help.

My site isn't an rpg, and I do use antiquus.

Yep, Just never give up and you'll be in the big leagues in no time.

I don't have much to say since I don't know many ways that can help you increase your activity again. But I happened to see this and just thought instead of reading it and going, "Aww, I won't be able to help him. I don't even own a forum. xD -exits-" like what I sometimes do. I decide to, for a change, post this. Not sure if it'll be very useful, but all I can do is wish you good luck, and hope your forum will get those active members back again! I know it can feel pretty frustrating, but maybe they'll eventually start coming back after sometime. 🙂 Whatever you do, though, don't give up! 🙂 If you ever do feel like giving up, what works for me is to look back at why I even started doing it in the first place.

Because you said it randomly went dead, I am thinking that maybe it could be a problem accessing your site. I know at times I have been unable to access sites whilst others can.

With regards to the chat box, I can see where you're coming from. Maybe you just have to wait and hope they will come back or maybe something other is amiss. Unless one tells you I guess you can only guess. I wish you luck though. 🙂

300 posts on my forum and I'll buy you a TLD 🙂

The site does look A lot of plain , No attractiveness and i don;t think forummotion would have a downtime 😛 .

Would the fact the holiday season is over have anything to do with your reduced activity? School is back in session is it not? Send out an email to your member base, remind them that weekends are chalk full of fun at...

Keep people updated about your site, add new content, make sure you promote your site as well.

Depends on the topic, how long I have, and do they have to be quality posts?

Btw ty for all the suggestions everyone.

Why do people still insist on using Forumotion? There are way too many security exploits and its just utter madness! Forumotion forums are very easily hackable, and to be perfectly honest, this reason alone is why I never join up with Forumotion sites any longer. Too vulnerable to hackings and crackings and it is just not safe at all. So I would really recommend going for a host that's more secure.

So really, have the summer hackings of 2009 taught anybody ANYTHING? Apparently not! That year in particular, Advertise Hotspot, as well as a few other forums on that host, were hacked, and this served as a rude awakening to many forum owners that in order to best protect their members, they NEEDED to get off of Forumotion ASAP. Kind of sad that it took a load of hacking attempts for people to open their eyes, but there you are.

Just going to input this.

I for one keep my forumotion forum safe and effective, and those who got hacked, well, let's say this.

If they did, then all forums are in danger because one thing is for certain.

The Anon from 4chan could hack a government, so if they set their sights on any forum, it's finished.

And before it gets off-topic, I'm just going to say that this person has been doing a good job and has gotten very decent activity.

Shall we stay on Topic, gents?

Have they not made an effort to improve there security. Wonder if this should be a split topic.

On the activity, keep your head in the game, promote and keep the content fresh.

It's gaming, and not excellent posts, just normal ones 🙂 and say a month?

I got another offer. I'll think about both and I'll decide which one is best.

Security issues aside, Forumotion is one of the ugliest forum systems out there.

Let's look at the best forum software of 2011:
http://www.forum-software.org/vote-for- ... re-of-2011

This shows, there are definitely better alternative solutions to forumotion.

Infernhawk, I understand Forumotion is easy to you. But you're only 14, you'll learn fast, adapt to one of the better forum systems.

Any forums I come across, if it's Zetaboards or Forumotion, I immediately leave. I personally would not sign up on either forum system. And I'm sure there's many more people out there that shares the same perspective.
