Paris, France (BarutiwaDaily.com) - Jean-Francois Copé a leading member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), the ruling party of France, has proposed a bill to ban Muslim women from wearing the hijab in public. The hijab is clothing that cover the entire body of a woman except for her face and hands. The French parliament debated the controversial legislation last week and are preparing to vote on it today. The UMP wants to demonstrate it's commitment to a secular France. There are an estimated five million Muslims in France. Out of five million French Muslims, only 400 to 1000 Muslim women wear the hijab.
