France To Pass Law Banning The Hijab

Paris, France (BarutiwaDaily.com) - Jean-Francois Copé a leading member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), the ruling party of France, has proposed a bill to ban Muslim women from wearing the hijab in public. The hijab is clothing that cover the entire body of a woman except for her face and hands. The French parliament debated the controversial legislation last week and are preparing to vote on it today. The UMP wants to demonstrate it's commitment to a secular France. There are an estimated five million Muslims in France. Out of five million French Muslims, only 400 to 1000 Muslim women wear the hijab.

Yeah most Americans don't give a damn what you wear as long as your private parts are covered.

The only time when it bothers me is when it covers the whole face except for the eyes, and they are walking through Customs at the airport. How on Earth are you meant to differentiate them?

You can't force somebody to wear or not to wear something, anyway France had followed Belgium, in banning Burqa. Let's see how the Muslims react to the whole issue.

Muslims probably won't have much power in comparison and if they go to United Nations Human Rights authorities, I doubt the UN could do much as that would be an offense against sovereign power which every sovereign state has.

I remember reading a Muslim woman in France who shaved her head to comply with laws. I'm definitely against a banning of the hijab.

I feel for you. I went to a school where at least 40% of the people were muslim or at least middle-eastern (a few Lebanese Christians) and where the white people are the minorities. I'm sure there will be some angry faces tonight.
