Free Hosting Question

I already offer what your proposing and only require a link back to my main site in my clients footers. It seems to work well and much better than Ads. I do wish you luck though 🙂
 
If it's fast and has at least 95% up time then I'm sure it would get a lot of use. The reason why most go down is that the host generally has no money to keep the system/company going and is forced to close.

My current IcyBoards server has 100% uptime (I started monitoring on February 7th). Also, I'm going to have 2 plans, ad-free and ad-supported. Ad supported will offer more resources and will help pay server costs.

Maybe a month. I got slowed down with another project and stuff in life going on.
 
I got a quote on the server. I will need $200/month to fund this project. Does anyone have any ideas for income besides forcing ads on people or making them post in the forums?

Server will be Dual Quad Xeon 5410 (8 cores total), 16GB ram, 1TB disk, 100mbps internet

Referral ads. I'm making a little more from referral ads posted on my site than I am for ads themselves. I use a combination to maximize, could be an idea.

Any specific places you find that work best? I see namecheap (domain registrar) has a referral program but it doesn't look like it pays very much.

This is going to be a lot of fun and I really really want to do it.
 
To be honest, the ones I use are GPT sites. I tried Amazon affiliates and earned nothing over a few months time. Right now people are literally working for me, although I'm not pulling in that much. If you had people trying to start a website, they may be more than willing to sign up as your referral if you advertise it, especially if you are providing free hosting.

Oddly enough my biggest earner is a non-cash site, but I'm cashing out $50 a month on gift cards. I just use the cash I saved from those and apply it toward my online stuff.
