Free Hosting (Unlimited)

Nothing in the world is unlimited. Everything has a limit. I am guessing if a site were to use 800gb of bandwidth a month causing you to pay for more bandwidth yourself, you would kick them off baring in mind you are not charging users.

SHHHHHH!!! I was gonna shift youtube onto that server, be quit. Don't ruin it for me plox! ha ha. I do think it's common sense for what the limits for a site would be to the owner of it and they won't go over board...

Even so, each host who claims unlimited will stop you at some point when you use to much. It would be better if they give you the limit they will allow you get up to as then you will know how close you are to that limit.

I am not saying they will but this host could kick you off for using 5gb of bandwidth. On the other hand they might allow you use 100gb. To alot of hosts both of these are acceptable but to some that offer "unlimited" will kick you off before these limits. Bluehost is a good example of that. Unlimited disk space and bandwidth but really low CPU limit so you will get kicked of using to much cpu but because the limit is so low you will only be using 20gb bandwidth.

But the fact is, when a person says unlimited for 5$ a month and another one says the actual max your allowed for $5 a month your gonna go with the unlimited aren't you. It's all marketing sales really. It's like 99c sounds a fair bit cheaper than $1 or a $1.99 sounds cheaper than $2. I do get where your coming from but for free it's still a kick ass deal man. I'm gonna be trying my first attempt of a site on here so it's a great deal for me and I don't think I'll use much space so they will be safe also. For some people it's just really convenient and better than using free servers when you will get more space on here.

I don't think they should use unlimited either as everything has it's limits but it's just a marketing tool really. 🙂

I know it is down to marketing and people will go for unlimited over a set limit but in the end of the day, going for the set limit may always be better.

I am not saying don't take up the offer as for free you can't really go wrong but it is just a warning to people that think they can sit on the hosting for the rest of their lifes, even when the forum/site starts using huge amounts of resources. It just isn't viable for a host to give you unlimited resources as the host has a limit of bandwidth they can use a month and anything over that they will have to pay for more. A free host may not be willing to buy extra bandwidth is a site on their hosting is using excessive amounts while not paying a cent to help with the costs.

Again i am not putting this host down... I just don't want people thinking that just because they offer unlimited everything that they will be able to host there for ever. All hosts that offer limits like this is the same and you can't go wrong with a host that offers this for free.

@Fowler
I completely agree with you mate. I've yet to see the official terms, but i'm sure they're working on a usage disclaimer now. I plan to use the hosting for as long as I can before my sites get to the point where free hosting (even unlimited) will only do me so much good. At that time I will consider switching to paid offshore.

I suggest most users who do this expect the same, use it as you would any free host, as a kickoff in the right direction, not as your hosting for life 🙂

yea, i only expect 6 months maybe on a free server
inless i fail lol, i may use for longer though if my datadase can be supported by the host

The server owner has set up our accounts to show unlimited, also we don't pay $5 we pay loads more to get unlimited. 😉

Anyway, my idiot friends thought when you get unlimited internet you don't have a limit, but you do, I was trying to explain with there isn't unlimited pieces of paper in the world, they are so dumb anyway. Also they thought that if you invest in stock you can never lose money.

i would love to, but freeforums is going to charge me $30 to leave them...so bleh.

Lucky, MyFreeForums charge 65 pounds for the database, but I found an exploit got the database told a guy who told the admin and fixed the exploit, now I hate him!

It's only illegal if the host has something against it (such as ProBoards, or some phpBB hosts that offer a paid database copy).
