I'd rather pay $10 for a quality game with no in-app purchase – except if it's for expansions, those are acceptable to me. I abhor freemium games that attempts to sell gems to "improve" your experience, especially those that literally make you suck unless you pay up. If I see a game with a bunch of IAPs ranging from $1 to $50 or even more that game is immediately deleted from my device. I don't have the luxury to try and see if the game is manageable without milking my wallet; it's such a waste of time when there are other games out there that are ensured to give you a good experience right out of the box.
Alto's Adventure, Monument Valley, Transistor, among many others are some of the best games that you can snag for reasonable prices. Pay up once and you can enjoy it forever, unless they remove it from the App Store. But that's a whole other story.
