FreeForums.org Hosted Forums Are No Longer Ad-Free!!!

A source of mine has told me that the servers at freeforums.org are at the brink of dying completely, this is probably the reason behind all the down-time. I doubt they can afford new ones, which is why they're trying their hardest to make revenue.

man I'm glad I will be on advanced hosting in a few days and won't have to deal with it :mrgreen:
 
Advanced hosting is definately the way forwards, i'd purchase it as soon as possible, just in case my source's information is correct.

Must be the same source of mine -lol-

I heard a while ago that they were buggered which then leads me to ant=other complaint about them. I heard that they were on their last legs a few months ago and they are now trying to get enough money to get new ones -~- Why didn't they put ads on the forum when they first came to the conclusion that they need new servers as the current ones are nearly dead as that will have given them a few months extra revenue which would have meant they could get new ones a few months before they will now. If the servers mess up tomorrow they won't be able to replace them whereas if they added the ads before there would be more chance that they could replace them. If i had a forum with them i would rather they have put ads on when they first knew so they can replace them quicker to stop them from well and truly messing up.
 
I'm glad I decided to use forumotion.com instead of freeforums.org!
 
This is why I use http://www.myfreeforum.org they give free forums (with ads), but they have the best support system I have ever seen on the net; if I post a question on their support forum I usually get a response within 5-10 minutes. Also, they have lots of great add-ons for phpBB2 that make their version of phpBB2 LOTS better than phpBB3, which is why I'm not upgrading my forum. And they have 100% uptime, I've never seen my forum down.

Having ads is a way for a forum host to keep their hosting up and free, so you really shouldn't be complaining about the ads; but if a free forum host has ads, they should at least be a decent host...
 
I disagree. Their service is terrible, their service is terrible.

I've just tried visiting an old forum i hosted with myfreeforum and got this:

I will admit, i've had that a few times with freeforums.org, although a simple refresh sorted the problem. With myfreeforum, the error sits there, pernamently. Then you look at the physical appearence of each host's homepage,

Freeforums.org -> Clean, Professional, easy to look at
Myfreeforum -> Unprofessional, Tacky, Poorly constructed and sore on the eyes

The support forum for freeforums.org is a lot better too, i wated 50 minutes for a reply on myfreeforum, as compared to the 3 or 4 minutes i waited on freeforums.org.

freeforums.org will always be my choice of freeforum host, regardless of ads or not.
 
Most good free hosting tends to end up having ads in the end.
 
Yep, although without the members that are active on FreeForums.org Support daily, you wouldn't get a reply so fast. There are alot of people that help out in the Support forum but are not staff members.
 
There are so many wannabe staff members on there thoe, its humerours.

It's even more humerous if you correct them, like with microchip he posts something then if CareyCrew corrects him micro edits his own posts, makes them white so they dont show up.

Its insecure as he doesnt want to show that...he sucks.

MaxSterling is one of the worst at that also.
 
I hardly ever go into the support forum. There are to many unread posts for me.

When i do go in there, i answer the questions i know for sure.

I've never personally seen one of MaxSteling's replies incorrect, although as i say; i don't go into the support forum often. I do find that he tries to act like he knows it all when obviously he doesn't if he is answering questions incorrectly. He's also quite rude in some of his posts.

Ah well.. Thats life.
 
With phpBB2 if you log-out then log back in it clears all posts to read.
 
Wow.. I didn't know freeforums were putting banner ads on the forums they host.

Text ads were not so bad but the banners are quite annoying!
 
It is text and banner ads (they vary)... The ads under the first post is really annoying and they should atleast be centered at the top of the forum as they look untidy to the left.
 
the host the i use has that type also, but we can choose the ads, i have 1 pop under per user, its a lot better than ads everywhere inbetween posts
