FreeForums.org Hosted Forums Are No Longer Ad-Free!!!

I never really liked them anyway... the forums just didn't have that feel to them.
Freeforums is a horrible hosting site. Let me leave my quick feedback
When I used them, one of my forums were 5 days old and out of the 5 was only up for 4 days... wow. I've created 3 forums with them and all three were deleted and it wasn't at the same time. I created my second and third ones because of the previous ones being deleted due to server problems but in the end all the forums were accidentally deleted so I decided I needed better so I went to phpbb3now.com and the other forum is hosted by jcink (IPB). 2 thumbs down for freeforums.org

I have a forum at both freeforums and forumotion, and I prefer Forumotion in most ways. The biggest problem I have is that Forumotion does not allow individual forum users to choose skins for themselves, so the Admin has to try and find a skin that everyone will agree on...and that isn't easy. Freeforums however allows this, and they also are adding in revenue sharing with Adsense soooo...yeah.

Have you noticed how they said that then nothing has happened and they never mention it anymore? I think either they had no intention to add it and it was a way to make adding ads on the forums not that bad or google rejected it as they feel it would encourage the ads to be clicked in order to earn the money for the forum owner.

The problem is at one point there is going to be a bill (even for advanced hosting) and users of advanced hosted forums need a way to rectify the cost. So even those go ad-supported. Unless there is money stored away in advanced, ads have to be placed to help make money. One problem is unless you use google ads or yahoo publisher network, some other services aren't contextual ads, which causes a lower CTR (click through rate) and fewer clicks.
I've been with Invisionplus.net for quite awhile. They've had their ups and downs with server issues but I like the domain name and the ads are currently on the bottom only of forums. I can understand putting ads on forums because server costs are very expensive. People want to be able to make money or at least cover their costs. I don't think $4.95 is that bad for ad removal. I think it's better than Proboards and Invisionfree.

I have never liked FreeForums.org, that is why I always use MyFreeForum.
I once created a forum with them but, although it was ad-free, it had very few features and nearly always had error messages popping up which got really annoying.
In addition to this, when I went to the support forum to ask why I kept getting the errors, their support staff took a long time to reply and when they did finally reply, they did not help and were very rude.
In the end, I just gave up with it.

They are going downhill right know, the ads they have now make sound -roll- which is insane... people are waiting weeks for backups and advanced hosting transfers which is outrageous... and they are moderating their support forum like nazi's -roll- any kind of negitive topic about them or criticism of their service or their new 'talking' ads seems to disappear quicker than it's posted -roll- Their release of phpBB3 better have more options, features and MOD's than ANY other host or they probably won't be around much longer with the kind of service they offer...
