Re: Futurama Fan Forum - 720,000 posts

Woah! Perfect forum! Love it! You get 1,000 posts a day? I struggle to get that in three weeks. 😛

Care to share your tips on how to build a sucessful forum?

Re: Futurama Fan Forum - 720,000 posts

Thanks TheWonderkid505. After having a quick look at your forum, it is very apparent that you are on free software. The first rule of a successful forum is having decent forum software. If you are serious about your forum and want it to go far then unfortunately you will have to invest a bit of money into it. The good thing is, you can make it all back in the long run. Anyway, get decent software such as vBulletin or IPB and then find a professional looking skin. Next up is to get a domain name. Your domain at the moment has forumotion in it which isn't so good for Google and doesn't look particularly good to potential members. Try and buy www.trustworthyuters.co.uk/ if it's not taken. Then advertise, advertise, advertise. Sure my forum usually gets 1,000 posts a day, but you have to take into consideration that it is nearly 4 and a half years old. I have put years of time, effort and money into the community and I have been rewarded with a fantastic, loyal member base. Also, as the forum becomes bigger, it gives you options to sell advertising space and try and make some money back. Due to the size of my forum, it actually costs me $50 a month just to keep it on the Internet... and even that's mates rates.

I hope that's been useful to you. Just keep plugging (excuse the pun) away 🙂

Woah! That's the best advice I've ever heard! Yeah, Forumotion isn't brilliant, but it gets the job done I s'pose. The selection of skins on there isn't too appealing either.

So...say if my forum...gets 10000 posts would I have to pay money every week to keep it on the 'net?

Cheers. 😉

Re: Futurama Fan Forum - 720,000 posts

All the time you stay on forumotion the forum won't cost you anything but if you want to get to the big leagues it will cost you money monthly (not weekly) and will only cost you something cheap like $5 or something like that until the forum gets big and will gradually start costing you more and more 😉

So if I stay on forumotion my forum can't get lots of posts?

Re: Futurama Fan Forum - 720,000 posts

Thats not what I'm saying lol. I'm saying if you stay on forumotion you're less likely to have a successful forum (but not impossible).
