Just checked out your site! You have a nice little site there man! I love the logo at the top and the homepage looks great too! What I would do, just out of experience, is maybe get some custom forum index icons to replace those white dots. You could get something made in the graphics section that would say GB or GBB. It would look great with more custom icons like that! 🙂 Maybe I'll stop by! Nice site 🙂

I have seen Kean asking for advice in his advertisement topic at another forum, so I offered, and he was attentive. From this, I gather he is seeking advice at every opportunity. Perhaps this makes him look inexperienced, but from the many complaints I have read about forum administrators it seems the bigger problem is administrators who do not ask for advice because they think they already know all the answers. Along those lines, as Millard Drexler, president and CEO of Gap, told Malcolm Gladwell: "Arrogance makes failure. Once you think you know the answer, it's almost always over." Mr. Drexler may have been talking about running a business, but this may also be applied to running a forum.

Going back to Kean, I do not know his level of experience, but I know that experience is gained not only by experimentation, but by asking for and swallowing up every morsel of information offered. In that regard, I am reminded of Frederick Douglass, the famous American lecturer and writer. According to the late historian Howard Zinn, it is incredible that he, as a slave, learned to read and write. Since a slave was forbidden from learning, he as a boy found time between errands by soliciting at every opportunity. In regards to writing, he would go up to the free boys and claim that he can write better than they, and when the free boys saw the flaws in his best efforts at scribbling they were eager to offer free lessons.

That said, if Mr. Douglass can scrape up that much while under excruciating supervision by his masters, a free man going around soliciting advice at every opportunity can learn a lot more. But you have to ask first. A lot of people do not ask because they do not want to be embarrassed for a moment to prevent being embarrassed for a lifetime. I suspect a year from now Kean will know a lot more about forums, but he may still ask people if they would like to provide him feedback because intellectual growth is a perpetual process. And it is better to allow people to think you know little because you solicit advice at every opportunity, rather than to know you know little because you were too afraid to solicit advice at every opportunity.

I am a member of Kean's forum. Just registered yesterday. I enjoyed the private conversation I had with him at another forum. Liked his attitude. Joined mostly on account of that.

Thank you Kino! I'll look around to see what I can get for the forum icons & will let my designer know what to do. If you happen to stop by, let me know!

EDIT: I've done what you suggested! Would you mind telling me what you think of it? 🙂

Thank you Medora. I believe I know exactly who you are and I appreciate all the advice you've given me so far. Heck, I even used some of them and it definitely improved my forum.
