Hi all. Just stopping in because the cable company hasnt gotten around to cutting off my internet yet. LOL. It would be funny if they forgot about me. I doubt that would happen though, probably get shut down next time I load the page.

Anyways, Ive been forum free for almost 2 weeks now. Even though closing my forums was something I didnt want to do but had to because of real life problems, I can say that its quite a relief to not have something I feel like I have to constantly check on. I don't have any drama to deal with and no nitpicky complainers to deal with. Plus there is more time for more positive hobbies that do not give me any stress. I do keep in contact with some of my internet friends through email so I guess Ive taken the good part with me and left the bad behind.

So.. do you think you could give up forums voluntarily or would you have to be dragged out kicking and screaming?

I have done this several times given up forums and just helped run someone else's forum or just been a moderator, i find that it brings less stress and less headache and i have no relised i don't really want my own forum anymore and eel i love coding a forum and starting a forum but don't enjoy the actual running of my own forum.

I don't even have my own hosting anymore altho i do have a domin i may still use as its only £2.50 for a resellar so i may just keep that because its so cheap and can just have a domain email and host other images i need.

I currently don't own a forum so it doesn't bother me. I'm trying to make my very first one now. Hope it goes well for me but I feel I can just leave.

I've never given up a forum, and I hope I don't have to. Like you said in the first post, I would have to dragged out kicking and screaming.😛 But seriously, I think that running a forum shouldn't be a major aspect of your life, but rather just be something that you do during your spare time.

No, I won't give up on a forum. It's too much fun.

I don't see how you can, either. It's not like you have to devote your life to it. A forum is a hobby; something you do in your spare time. If you're devoting your life to the forum, then you clearly have the whole forum idea wrong.

Well I am drawn to my forum, when my server crashed, I nearly gave it all up, and resigned as admin to give it to my mod.

Well it was very hard for me to close FA and The Island but I had to do what I had to do. I had no other choice that I would be comfortable with. When I did it I almost thought I would have a hole in me or something. To kill something I spent nearly two years building was a hard thing to do. BUT I always try to look at the bright side of things. Life without the internet is great. I think I spent too much time on the internet. I would often stay up all night on the computer and get little sleep. Resulting in me not having a very productive day at work. Thats not good. In these last two weeks without a commitment to the computer aka my very busy forums; Ive had time to get my house immaculate, start a garden in the back yard, and have even more of a social life than I had before. Forums are addicting. Sometimes we dont realize how much time we spend on them until we dont spend any time on them at all.

I spend half my life online, mostly on forums, so if i cut forums out of my life it would certainly make a big difference. Although i wouldn't have to go "kicking and screaming", as hard as it is to resign from somewhere, if it was necessary then i'd do it.

 Wow, that is a lot of time online. Doesnt sound healthy. Even when I felt I was spending entirely way too much time online, it wasn't that much.

I was forced off the net for about 6 weeks, cause my pc crashed, and browsing on the Wii was a pain. And, I honestly thought I could just releive myself of forum pressures. I expected to return to a dead forum when i got back on mine. But, when i got back on, my forum was still going, active members keeping the forum alive in my absense. That suprised me, a great deal, and motivated me to get back in the game once i had my new pc.

I could leave though, without hesitation. I've only been on forums for a total of 2 years now. I just don't feel the need to leave , at this moment. Sure, the pressure is building, each day, but the rewards and friends you interact with that you won't find in your neighborhood makes it all worth it.

With that answered. Good Luck in everything you do , theezy. I almost envy you, lol. You're free of all the foruming stress. I know you're gonna miss it, but you've got plenty good to look forward to now, bud. 🙂

Yeah.. Unfortunately I went out the "kicking and screaming" way, but it all worked out for the best. It was hard to close them but now that some time has passed its not a bad thing. The FA staff (who I was most concerned about) and the members have gotten over it and moved on. Nobody is bitter and things just ended smoothly. Its always good to go out on a high note rather than closing because everything crumbled to the ground.

I've given up several times, though they usually stay open for at least two months 🙂

I'm trying my best not to give up with CC though.

Im with CMM, i spend half my time online too mainly on forums. Ive even got my own one, that's almost ready for the public which is going to cut my time to myself in half again. It's either foruming or playing games so i don't mind too much.

Well you and mike are both teenagers. When I was a teenager enjoying my last few years being a kid instead of wasting my life away on a computer. These last 2 years Ive had the internet, I was 23 years old through 25 years old. Ive already got all the kid out of my system and I mostly spent nights on the computer. Not really any valuable time wasted. But I could have been sleeping and getting enough rest instead of being a zombie all day at work. Lol.
The only way I could see spending half your life online is if you were working for some internet based company.

Well you were a "kid" around 6 or so years ago, and considering the times now, life has changed. The internet is now a huge source of almost everyone's daily life, teenagers and adults alike are now using the internet on a daily basis. Always revolving isn't it 😉.

I wouldnt say its a "huge source of life" for people. For the majority of people (who dont have a job dealing with computers), they just muck around on the computer wasting hours away instead of getting out and doing things. I remember 5 years ago I would drive past the park and see teenagers playing basketball, football and soccer all the time. Now the parks are usually empty and everyone is sitting on the computer getting fat and lazy. 😛

So you mean to tell me when you had the internet and could use it, you didn't? You can't say no to that one, nor can anyone on the internet do so. Most people with little knowledge of the internet use it too as a payment method. Heck even big business such as banks would rather you to pay online then go to their doors.

No I am responding to those of you saying you spend half your life on the computer. Not bill payments and stuff like that...

The internet actually does concern me..as a mother of a teenager i see how much time she spends online rather than out with friends...it seems to be a part of life nowadays...
So many people say the internet isnt real.....yet we all spend so much time meeting new people, and foruming! Makes you really wonder just how much of our lifes are devoted to the internet.

Hope you are doing well Theezy.x
