Should you really go over-the-top to celebrate, even for small achievements

Whether if it's a high-school graduation or even a job promotion, apparently friends and family have to celebrate these achievements in the most over-the-top and foolishly positive way possible, wasting money and time for such activities.

And don't me started about birthdays..

Sure it's okay to be a little over-the-top, when a child turns five, learns to walk, reads their first book or something.. but going over-the-top for the so called "Sweet Sixteen"?

Please... when I turned sixteen, all I got was a cake,a anime DVD(Chobits) and a Playstation 2 game(Guilty Gear XX:Accent Core Plus) and I didn't care about getting a car.
Plus, two of my three friends helped me celebrate, at least having them there made me even happier.

Which brings up another point.. children nowadays are spoiled too much, but I'll discuss that at a later time..

Damn... thats what I want to talk about now... I have a nice long rant for that one.

It can be a bit crazy if it's something very little, maybe celebrating for much higher achievements only and if just getting a gift or something little for someone when they obtain a small achievement, rather than a huge enormous party.

What makes you say that? Children (in the United States) nowadays have to deal with much more than their parents had to deal with, mostly because of the previous generation. Look at the amount of student loans people have out of college, the lack of jobs, the income gap, etc. This summer I'll be working ~60-70 hours a week in order to get money and have a chance of getting a job out of college.

Do you even understand what he means by children. He is talking the ages of 6-18. Elementary to High School.

Kids in that age group are way to spoiled. When I see kids telling their parents what to do. Or demanding x thing... I have no hope for the future..

You have kids having sex in freaking middle school!!! You have kids at ages early as 11 and 12 getting criminal charges pressed on them.

You have kids that never get punished by their parents for anything wrong they do...

You have kids with no respect for authority...

You know why? Because of their parents who are usually pretty damn young themselves not teaching them the basics of right and wrong.. They do not enforce any rules... To put it simply... they do not know how to be a freaking parent.

The best part is.. These parents are still considered young adults or even children themselves...

This isn't about the economy or jobs or anything... It is about how sad this world has become. When you got television shows about 16 year olds who pregnant, are not married, do not have a job, and some do not even have their BF who help give birth to the baby around... You know something is wrong...

You're generalizing.

There's a limit. I think personally, if it's a one time thing, then sure, why not go all out? But birthdays and such? Nope, small parties and stuff are fine.
