What do people gain out of hacking someones forum? On Thursday i was a victim of the senseless act of hacking!

I don't understand why people do it

It gives them some sort of satisfaction that they have wasted someone's time and they kind of feel better than them.

They do it simply because "they can".

They also get a buzz out of seeing the reaction, and topics the Admin posts such as "We got hacked!" or "We're under attack!".

I actually know some hackers.

They say the actual hackers only do site security, and crackers crack passwords to get admins FURIOUS.

Then some little kids find codes that actually hack and throw them around for fun, then get in trouble.

I agree with Christian. They do it because they know how and they find it fun.

For whatever reason these people do this it, is very sad that they use such knowledge and skill in such a negative and destructive manner. (

Why do people get high?

Why do people create forums?

Why do people hack forums?

Why do people sky dive?

Answer: It gives them a small "high" and makes them feel good.

Hackers do not "need to get a life", they are a vital part of the Internet society. It is their actions that force updates, and in most cases the developers don't just want to release an update to cover security holes so they toss in some new features as well.

Food for thought:
Wikipedia defines a "Hacker" as;
Hacker (computer security), someone involved in computer security
Hacker (programmer subculture), a programmer subculture originating in the US academia in the 1960s, now primarily notable for its involvement in the free software/open source movement
Hacker (hobbyist), an enthusiastic home computer hobbyist
Media hacker, someone who uses the media in new ways
Reality hacking, similar to a computer hacker, but hacks the "real world"
Wetware hacker, one who experiments with biological materials

Hackers do more good than negative.

No security updates would lead to less overall updates, which could be less new features. As I said, developers never like to release an update just to cover a bug, because then they look bad. If they add a new feature as well, however small, it makes them have a better mindset.

Similarly, wars lead to developments in technology which would otherwise not have happened any time soon. Canned food was developed for French armies and there were numerous automotive breakthrough brought about by it. It's easy to make the connection, so I don't find what ℓєσ gнσѕт is saying very unbelievable. Developments in security and other features can go hand in hand at times and also, as he said, encourage developers to release features.

Yeah. some do it because they dont like you.

I have not upset anyone, so i know it wasnt that, another board got hacked to so i think this person was targeting SMF boards that were using this certain host

You should try Trap17. They are much bigger, and you can get better plans, domains and the such.
