Having Forum Partners

What would be the benefit of having two owners? To keep costs down?
Cost down is one reason. Allows for forum vacations. Like breaks from the forum. Sometime 2 or 3 heads are better than one. The fact that 2 or more people with the same idea are not trying to get the same people to each site. You only have 1 site instead of 2 or more.

Of course there are down sides to everything.

Definitely, it's best to split up the cost. As for having more people it would make things complicated, especially in the case if someone bailed out. At that point I would discuss it with the other staff and see if we should look for another partner or try to do what we can on our own. After all, we'd need to be all on the same page for the project to work.
If you did bring in someone else, what would do to put that person even with you and the other person? The person that bailed, would you pay them what they invested? Or would you make it clear when you started that you leave, your investment would be gone?

I'm the only Staff on mine. I don't even have moderators. I'm on morning & night & at this time, I don't need the extra help. Now, if I could move out of Proboards, I'd need some help with the technical side. But that too, would just be temporary help & "as needed". I honestly just prefer to do it myself. I've seen friendships end when conflicts arise. I'd have to REALLY know & trust the other person to give them equal partnership.

I understand a lot of people are doing it for fun, therefore, they are seeking for partners to use their work, then there are also people like me who refuse to work for free. I can accept even $10 for working for the entire week, but I can't work for free. Since 90 percent forums do not earn, partnership with other forums for revenue sharing will not get you anything.

Some are about cash and some are not. When entering into a partnership you should make it clear what you want out of it. If you expect to make cash or not

I've never had a partner on any of the forums I run. It's not that I'm dictatorial, anything of any real significance is always discussed by me and the staff as equals but if there's no real consensus to be reached I'll make the final decision.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with having a partner but you both need to be singing from the same song sheet or things are likely to head south pretty quickly.
