In my opinion, this bill is an absurd breach of american liberty. Regardless of whether it is good or not, which is isn't, if the democratic leadership has to give congressmen Indian-sunburns to get their votes and their phone lines are l being jammed with calls, then something must be wrong. Something is wrong. I don't see why they are still trying to pass a bill in the face of polls like these:

I am getting sick of all this talk about health care. It's all they ever think about.

As for the quality of the bill, it will destroy health care. Not only will it cost billions (if you don't believe me, just wait. they plan on passing a modification soon to increase the cost by several hundred billion). There is no magic wand which can expand coverage for free.

Government has already f****d over enough, let's not have them interfere with health care. This will only increase taxes and lower the quality of health care. I admit I haven't read the entire bill (I did read HR3200), but I have yet to see anything good about HR3590.

If they had actually read it, they would know that it was actually a bipartisan bill. It offers incentives for conservatives, such as abortion clinics, where young pregnant women would get counseling, and for liberals, such as the government controlling health care.

The liberals want Communism to be forced upon us, that is why this is being done.

Do the UK, Canada, or (post-WWII, mind you) Germany look like communist states? We are taking less control than them! The government isn't taking over hospitals and physicians aren't becoming government employees. Also, the same was probably said about Social Security and Medicare. Is the US a communistic state?

The liberals are the ones who have not read it. Remember when the conservatives brought a copy of the bill to that health care summit? Remember when Obama was scowling at them as they read the bill, and could only comment after an aid whispered in his ear? It's all on youtube, I would imagine.

Found an article debunking myths.

While this blog was written one day prior to a watered version of the health care reform act moving to its final vote, there are still many in the U.S. who continue to wade through the misconceptions. Far from following the health care models of other countries and after over fifty years of fighting for some form of reform, if you're a 'dummy' like me, you may still not be as knowledgeable as you'd like regarding this revolutionary new legislation. However when dealing with the facts on some of the major issues, I was able to research some of the more topical myths that can be debunked.

From a UK standpoint , we have the NHS, that's the National Health Service, this was introduced in the mid 1940's and is a government run scheme where workers pay a small percentage from their wages each week, known as national insurance contributions. This contribution is I think around 11% of your earnings?
Everyone's contribution goes towards government run hospitals, clinics, dentists and opticians etc.

Every single British citizen has the right to free health care, working or not......Now you may think that the workers are paying for this but you must remember that not every one is working for ever, people become unemployed, people get jobs, so contributors are forever changing. Some people also take out private health care insurance, this is because the strains on the free services mean longer waiting times.

Over the last 15 years the changes to the NHS have been more noticeable, cost cutting, staffing, closures and management restructure, all this has a knock on effect and standards have dropped, the government virtually "robbing Peter to pay Paul" as they say.

All this said, it is good to know that if myself or one of my family were seriously sick or injured there is no need to have the extra stresses of where the payments are coming from to cover the cost of it.

I shall also note, that medicare and medicaid drop 6% of patients from coverage, whereas, the highest insurance company rate is currently 3%.

They still have healthcare.

Abandonment - The practice of refusing to give care - Is illegal. Coverage is the thing we're worried about in this bill.

REAL Reform ideas:
Tort reform.
Legal Reform - There's so much bureaucracy in HC right now that it drives costs up.
Preventative medicine.

I'm not too sure of the details of the reform so cannot comment.

I live in the UK and our health system is pretty much free. We pay a heck of a lot of tax though so you do actually get charged but just straight out of your wage. While the system here isn't perfect, I like the fact that if I am injured or need an operation then I won't have to worry what it will cost me and if I have adequate insurance to cover me.

Actually their maximum isn't enough to pay for the average surgery. I'm talking LIFETIME maximum.
