Getting a good google ranking is much easier than it seems. If you are in a small enough genre you can be in the top 10 within just a few days as long as you play your cards right (and work hard 😀 ).

To explain how to advertise correctly on a forum, I will give a few tips.

First the format of the link:
Code:
[url=http://yoursite.com/]The Text You Want Google To Rank[/url]

An example would be:
Code:
[url=http://aqua-teen.com/]Aqua Teen Hunger Force[/url] - [url=http://aqua-teen.com/quotes/]Aqua Teen Hunger Force Quotes[/url] - [url=http://aqua-teen.com/characters/]Aqua Teen Hunger Force Characters[/url] - [url=http://aqua-teen.com/images-2/]Aqua Teen Hunger Force Images[/url] - [url=http://aqua-teen.com/forum/]Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forum[/url]

The text will display as Aqua Teen Hunger Force - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Quotes - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Characters - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Images - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forum , but still link to the site. This is called Anchor Text

When google indexes the link it remembers what the text was and compares it to your header. This way your site is indexed correctly. Anchor text, meta descriptions, and keywords on the page work together to help your site rank higher on google. You do not need a high pagerank to get a high google ranking (though it helps).

Second; Image Links:
Image links are good for drawing members directly, text links are better for drawing search engine rankings. I would use text links and image links together in your signatures to maximize your exposure. I suggest you put your text links first though as search engine spiders may follow them as it scrolls down the page and as I mentioned, the text links are more valuable to google than the images.

Third:
Link your site as often as possible. If you are ever making reference to your site, then please link it as well (using anchor text).

With these tips hopefully the reader will be able to increase their own forums google ranking.

Thanks Whaturmuva, I and certainly many others will find this useful.

Glad to help 😀

Figured I would take a little downtime to write a little bit, hope everyone benefits from this.

Nope, I sold it. Had no passion for gaming to be honest. I play 2 games.. Resident Evil and Madden. Just was too hard to keep posting on something that I did not take any enjoyment out of.

Nice guide, I need to change the link in a few of my sigs now...would including the slogan help at all? Or should you match the meat tags as much as possible?

The slogan would give you more keywords but would skew your ranking some

ex. I could use Aqua Teen Hunger Force - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Quotes - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Characters - Aqua Teen Hunger Force Images - Aqua Teen Hunger Force ForumIt would cover "Zombie Forum", "Survival Forum" slightly but not as strong as it would cover the full term "Zombie Survival Forum". So if your link term is normally long don't change them... but I wouldn't recommend adding extra lines to try for a better ranking in multiple sections because the actual change would be nil.

How does this work then? Because i have been on a fair lot of forums and added it to the sig and stuff, but im still only on the third page of rankings. I don't know what else to do?
How many forums would you say you've added it on?

Have you placed your signature links(anchor text) in the proper format? If not you must narrow down your search terms.

According to dnscoop.com I've got over 6,000 known links to my site. Each post I make on every forum I post on contains a link to my site.

Your site looks to be music discussion which is a hard genre to rise in. Your anchor text is "Music Discussion Forum" which does not show up in the top 200 places in google.

This is the information DNScoop is finding on your site:
botbforum.com was created on: November 10 2008

Domain age (approximately):
0 Months, 21 days..

The total number of pages that contain links to
botbforum.com:
173

I suggest narrowing down your anchor text. Maybe to something more consistent to your site. Maybe something like "British Music Discussion", "British Music Battle"... something a little easier to rise in. Then once you're high in that position you can move to other text much easier.

Most of my links are under 'Text Battle Forum' cos' since thats an active 'mainly focussed' part of my site then i thought i'd raise that. Although even that is proving to be hard.
What would you suggest?
Also you said something about the 'correct way', as in the proper format.
What exactly would that be?

(A code would be majorly helpful, as i've only just started promoting properly really, so it would help alot)

Your anchor text can be whatever you believe you can raise fast (ie. has less competition when googling it.

Well my forums name is BOTB Forum, and it is first in it's respective catagory (i.e. if you search BOTB Forum it comes up with my site) but if i want to get it higher in something else i just have to keep using my 'Text Battle Forum' links?

Oh and by the way how many sites would you say you have this in your sig on, roughly?

My signature on? I haven't the slightest clue. Hundreds would be my best estimate.

According to Google it only has 13 links

So, not many

That is because google does not update properly... which is the reason it's "Link" attribute cannot be used with any accuracy. I mean look up google using it... "626,000 linking to http://www.google.com"... think that in all of the internet google is only linked to 626k times?

Yahoo's site explorer is the way to go. Has google with 5.1 Million in links which is much more acceptable than googles own link check which is at 626k.

This is why I mentioned dnscoop.com as a good way to check your stats. As it runs using googles pagerank settings along with yahoo's site explorer results to give you the best of both worlds in terms of information about your site.

I knew this, well in a way. I thought if you post the url more than that other way, then it'll be better, but your right, thats good thinking.

Thanks. +rep. on this!!!

Edit: Do you mind if I put your (whaturmuva) on my forum ([http://rcxpromotion.co.cc]RCX Promotion[/url])? This will help out my forum and many many others.
