If you were going into hospital for about a month then what would you do about your forum?

Depends the nature of the injury involved. If at all possible I'd bring my laptop in and access the internet from a broadband dongle. If not, then I'd have my friend alert the staff to what happened.

If I had a medical emergency, I doubt my forum would even enter my mind at all.

Well when I had swine flu, my forum was the only thing that kept me sane. No one wanted to go within ten feet of me...

If I had a medical emergency the last thing I'd worry about would be the forum if I'm in the hospital for a month. Rather I'd worry about the bill...

Well in my case everyone would be alerted as soon as it happened, since I have people from school working along with me. There wouldn't be a need to shut down, slow down, or do anything different just because I wasn't there. It may actually be a good thing, because while laying there bored to death I could come up with really good ideas. Trust me, after a few days of being in there you're bored to death =\

Heh, I could be shot 4 times and still worry my forum would die.

If I was in the Hospital, I'd have my laptop sent to me. Yay Internet in Hospital!

I agree.

However, for a planned hospital visit/stay I would just take my laptop with me if that was possible. If not I have staff I trust to look after the place when I go visit my mum (no internet connection there), would just be the same if I had to go into hospital. Although if it was for like a month I would most likely swap phone numbers with some staff members (those in the same country) and keep up to date with things through phone.

Although, saying that, my OH is admin on my forum (silent, just incase I need someone outside of the community to help deal with arguements) and would keep me up to date anyway.

Guys... you do realize a month in the hospital could bring you to around $200,000.
(for people in the US that is)

A forum would be the last thing on my mind, although if I had the chance i'd most likely inform the other staff members.

We also have much lower taxes, since our medicine isn't socialized (yet 😛 ).

Same here. They always say that real life comes before computer life, and that is so true in this case. If you knew in advance that you were going to be in the hospital for some time, I would post a message in your staff room (if you have more than one person on staff) that you are going to be gone for a while. No need to go into detail about what you're having done. Just say that you're going to be gone for some time, and that you need them to look after the forum for you while you're out. Also, if you have a co-administrator or co-founder, and you guys were planning on having a contest or something, I would give my co-administrator or co-founder to go ahead and start the contest if they wish to. But there too, that all depends on what the prizes were supposed to be. If it was a special siggy, rank, whatever, then I would let them go ahead and start hosting the contest, but if it was something that were to be shipped through PayPal or mail or whatever, I would probably put the contest on postponement until I returned. So, in actuality, I would just give my site to my co-administrator to run while I was out, and then I would take over again when I returned.

Every citizen pays for it via taxes, whether they go to the hospital or not. Nothing is free.

You must have missed my post. Despite the fact that my state has the highest property taxes of all the states, we pay less in taxes per year than you do. You pay for it in taxes, we pay for it when we need it. Unless you are in the hospital often getting expensive medical treatment, it is better off in the USA than in the UK.

That my fellow user, is why the USA is so pwnsome.

Oh god this forum gets enough arguments as it is... let's not start a politics one.

But yeah, I'd probably find a way of getting online from hospital just for the sake of something to do. It would be between that or reading a book. Of course it would depend upon the nature of the injury.

If it wasn't for debate I would have left this place long ago...
