So far beyond Postloop, ForumPromotion, and a few friends I've been unable to get actual users to join my forum. I've optimized speed and setup a nice theme. What are some other things I can do to get my forum started?

Having a forum on your website is great for giving your visitors a reason to come back to your site, but how do you get people to join your forum in the first place? ... Write an ArticleRequest a New ArticleAnswer a RequestMore Ideas 🙂 :nyan:

Yes, this would be something I am interested in myself. I have not tried Postloop; so I will have to look into that.

Have you tried social media? May be a ridiculous question, but I have found that these sources can be quite effective if you use them correctly. Just a thought, it might work.

Get some banner ads on different forums with high traffic. Share you forum in social networking websites and also in similar niche forums. This will help attract more traffic to your forum.

But building traffic only will not help get sign ups. You need to keep them engaged on your forum. Fill up your forum with more content and active threads and posts. This will help more traffic to convert into members.

Well, this is something I am after as well. Part of the reason that I am posting like crazy on an active forums like this in hopes of getting some new members and attentions, but as I have expected, the new members isn't comin' in, despite the fact that I DO see some increased visitors(but as you know, visitors is one thing, conversion is the one that matters). I know people can get weiry on new businesses or forums, but hopefully, the time will change it. I am pretty much exausted most of my money advertising, part of the reason that I am trying to advertise without spending anymore. Hopefully, the new members will come when I wait.

I'm not really sure other than promoting. Promotion is the best way IMO. Get your friends to tell their friend and try running a few contests. 🙂

I have this same problem, sometimes we have a lot of new members and content, other times not so much =\

Btw which forum script are you using?

Im using an "registerd link" mod in my forum

If you were browsing as an guest it will ask you to register or login to see links

Currently I have more members than posts..

Im getting 3 or 4 new registration everyday.

I feel like the best way to get more people is usually word of mouth. Getting a few good people to post and make your forum look "full" or "thriving" then really try to get a contest going like a posting contest maybe, or some sort of contest where people can win money. That's always a good start to a forum. Not always needed, but it brings traffic.

Look at joining like-forums. So if it's a general forum, join general forums. Now make sure to read their rules though! But sometimes you can advertise in your sig, or at least on your profile. And occasionally there will be an area that allows you to advertise once you have enough posts or have passed their guidelines.

Think about what type of people you'd want for your community and go after the markets that they usually are on. 🙂

Since I am pretty much done promoting sites here,(though none of them seems to be interested...), I've decided to search for some good forums to post in, so if you want me to post on your forums, simply E-mail me at: [email protected]. PM'ing me won't really get me noticed however, for, I won't log in here as much as I did before, and I will be busier than ever at my work and updating and improving my sites, so... Sending me E-mails will get me sooner, for I always check it. I decided to help out some of forums out there if it meets my interest, though it's only ONE member myself, since I've been there as I am desperately looking for new members.

The interest I am in are Video Games(mostly Fighting Games, and Action, or Auto Racing), Cars, among others, I am not into politics, current affairs and what not. So... I am only going to sign up to Forums, no Blogs(since I know nothing about blogs), so if you want me on your forum, well... If you have seen me from around the net posting(I go by the name GrandPrix08, and/or OnlyTanyaFan, along with Net-Steals), you KNOW I am frequent and I rarely leave any site unless they kick me out or insult me or something.

Good luck in getting new members on your forums. As far as tips go, Well, only thing I can say is, start small by inviting your friends first, and treat them nice, so they can invite THEIR friends as well, which actually happened for me about 10 years ago on my, now dead, very first forum, back in 2005, but it should be no different nowadays as well, after that, submit your site with the correct keywords, to the search engines and open directories(where Search Engines automatically search and list it) and let the word out and wait. As I am NOT a very successful person in that area, that's the only thing I can say, as I NEED help as well. Hey, that's why we are all here for? Aren't we?

Gotcha. I just sent you an email.

My suggestion, in addition to what's been said, is to look at what you're doing on forums to promote, like this one. Make people want to look at your forum and join. Your list of signature links here, for example, tells me nothing more than that you have a bunch of sites and I have no interest in clicking any of them. Pick one or two you want to focus on (likely the ones that will be of most interest to a particular community) and use nice images in your signature. Focus on getting services and posting topics for those forums (in the appropriate places) instead of a bunch of forums. Work smarter, not harder.

Agreed with all of the others when they talk about how you should;

  • Promote your forum on communities like this and on communites that are somewhat similar to yours
  • Get others to do exchanges that aren't just for X and Y posts and topics, but that take place over a months timeframe or even for longer than that
  • Have some form of giveaway or contest that draws in users to look all around the world at your community
  • Have some type of unique content that if people look it up, it will point to your community

All that I can think of after you make social media accounts and share information on them honestly.

although i didnt originally start the forum i run as i bought it i do know how the original owner got members and that was by getting into the news sites that were related to his site. he created news worthy posts that were linked to by sites such as engadget, psp-hacks, pspupdates, gizmodo etc

you just need to fill your site with content that would attract your target audience and spread the work round sites with a similar target audience

Never heard of Postloop before; I'll have to look into it.

Just keep posting on the site though, even if you're the only one or one of the only ones. Eventually you'll draw people in.

Tell your friends too. Even if they just join up and make a few posts, it'll still be helpful!

Putting a link in your signature on other forums could help too. I'm not sure how much it's helped me, but at least it'll get the word out there about it.
