Trying to find the right theme is one of the major issues every owner of a forum has to overcome. Some owners would rather use a dark theme over a light theme, and vice-versa. However, the owner usually doesn't think about how bad/well it will affect their forum in the future. It has been confirmed that dark themes are most likely useful for miscellaneous-type forums such as gaming forums, music forums, etc. Statistics also state that light themes are most likely to be affective in great outcomes for decent-type forums like promotion forums, support forums, debate forums, and any forum category in that range. So basically, if you have a promotion forum, then it would be more efficient to use a light-colored theme. If you have a forum for gaming, it would be more likely that you would use a dark theme. I have also noticed that in all of my years of forum-constructing that many young users find dark themes very much more attractive than basic light themes, and that's probably why most gaming forums are based on a dark theme. It is also found that any miscellaneous forum would work well on either a dark theme or a light theme. However, it's obvious that if you have some kind of horror-related, death metal, etc forum, then you would most likely want to use a dark theme and some kind of black on red color scheme (considering it would look like a dark, bloody theme.)
Another thing that you users would might like to know is that the most professional and common look for forums is the light theme with a color scheme of white, light gray, and any color ranging from light blue to cyan to dark blue.
