how much u earn with your site?

Just curious. I am thinking of starting a forum. I can see that some forums have VIP membership fees. From your personal experience, does that make any money?

When I had ads on our forum I was making around $400-$1000 per month but decided that the advertisements cut from the users experience on the forum so removed all advertisements.

Only if you're forum is very popular and members would be honoured to have their name in colour. Or if you offer great services for VIP members.

A site/forum is not a way to make money, at least not fast money.

Watch "The Social Network" movie, it had a few important key points.

Ads are not cool, so all the money that needs to build this up, is out of your own cost. Once the site has fully stabilized with a large loyal following of people, only then can you monetize.

There needs to be a huge hook that draws people back and tolerate the ads.

I've made just over $2000 this month from 1 site alone.

But as shady said, don't start a forum to make revenue. It won't work out.
That is very impressive. You could make a small living off of your site.

What the real question should be is, what is the site and why has it not been shared. when I see those type of numbers I want to see the site, but how many of them are actually ever posted?

Not saying Jay is not telling the truth, but why not say, I made just over $2,000 this month at this site located here? Would make sense right, more visits, more potential revenue.

This makes no sense, if you were making that kind of revenue then the ads were not intrusive to the members. If they were then you would not have made that much.

At an avg. of $500/month that is $6,000/year. So, you just removed the ads and tossed the revenue in the trash? Something is not right, maybe I am not understanding your post.

Everytime I see such bold amounts I want to see the sites and have yet to see one posted.

I'll tell ya my sites make enough to pay the annual hosting and domain fees at best ($100/yr to $200.yr). So, no bold claims from me, and my sites are in my signature.

Maybe because this thread is not for that and because he is not trying to advertise it in this thread?

My network is now making $15,000-$20,000 a month

It's taken a lot of work and six years to get to this point, but now I am getting the rewards!

I've been on the same as that for a few months, and starting to earn just over £1000 a month with Youtube alone.

You say you are making this, but is this after your fixed and runnning costs?

Don't Quit your daytime job. I didn't put ads on The Moral Liberal (a site I run with my father), until 6 months after it was established. At that point, it took a couple months to start earning enough through google ads, to be able to get a check every month. Though it isn't allot, it is enough to keep the site running, and to have some cash to spend on other things.

And what is the name of your "Network"?

The various links in my signature...

However 99% of that revenue comes from one website: http://tellymix.co.uk

-- Sat Jan 07, 2012 10:17 am --

If this is aimed at me, then the only running cost I have is hosting/bandwidth, which is around ~$1k a month at very most

Great info Spyka and I have used your services in the past. I want to thank you for sharing the details, all to often big boasters come here and tout huge monthly revenue but when you ask them to show you the site the radar goes blank.

It would be neat if you started a how to thread on this subject, not giving away trade secrets of course but something of a how to and what you you learned along the way. At phpBBC we are really into the Learning, Teaching and Sharing trying to get away from the same old topics with little to no content.... How to real world experience like yours is of extreme value.
