How long do you wait to get a new computer?

I often wait for 4 to 6 years before I go out and buy a new laptop.

Most people say upgrade every couple of years, GPUs you buy the Gen then skip the next gen or two then upgrade. Yet depends on your funds and what you can afford. Most system that is built can be built to last five or more years, in fact I have old hardware parts that are over 10 years old still works Xd

I think your computer should last you optimally for 5-6 years at the minimum. It can go higher than that though depending on how you handle it.

If my computer continues to run normally, I'm not going to buy a new one, but if it essentially dies on me, then it's time for a replacement.

I talk myself into buying a new shiny toy every few years. That’s why I’ve got 20+ computers at my house.

Why don't you use any of them?

I have not bought a new pc or laptop nearly as often as I have bought a new device or a car.

And if anything breaks down, I let my husband take care of it since he works in IT.

3 years or so ago I got a new computer. The one before I had since the early 2010s or so. I needed a new computer anyway even if it is a gaming one and I hardly game on it. lol

Every five years makes sense

Way too often tbh. If I've had a good couple of weeks with work, I wanna spend my money so just buy a new laptop. Bought one about 5 weeks ago.

3-4 years is my maximum waiting time until I buy a new computer. I always end up upgrading parts ever so often, but not a full computer upgrade unless it’s truly needed. 1-2 years is way too soon for me personally.

When it’s no longer capable of doing what I want it to do.

I've just built a new PC, my previous one being nearly 15 years old.

I tend to build PCs that are as future proof as reasonably possible so my main focus is always on the motherboard, CPU and I/O capabilities. My previous PC still has the original motherboard, CPU, memory and PSU but I've upgraded the graphics card and added a huge number of storage devices. After 15 years it's still faster than the majority of modern laptops but I needed something that could better handle the amount of encoding I do.

Amusingly my new PC looks like an empty box even though it has 24 terabytes of storage.

Since my PC ended up having bad issues after 5 years of consistent use not only in web browsing but also in creating videos and also live streaming, I would say that a new PC is needed every 4 - 5 years, 6 years at a push.

I usually get a new computer whenever my current one starts acting up. I just got a new desktop a few months ago, and it's been running smoothly.

Yet I still have 11 years old PC parts laying around still working lol

Every 4 years is good to replace cheapest computers at Wal Mart or whatever chain in your country.

Before buying a new computer, I try to upgrade my old one to the maximum in order to save money.
