How often do you buy a new computer?

Usually when mine goes super slower and unusable, I’ve had my laptop for years now and it’s still going strong although I did upgrade the RAM on it. There’s no need for me to buy a new one for a while I don’t think..

When my old one stops working and the fix is so expensive that I might as well pay a bit extra for a brand new one. Usually happens every 6-7 years.

How long do you wait to get a new computer?

I often wait for 4 to 6 years before I go out and buy a new laptop.
I don't replace my computer or phone until it's broken. My current laptop is 7 years now.

I don't owner a computer now. It's my smartphone I use to connect to the internet.

I only buy a new laptop when my previous one craps out on me and I can't use it anymore.

Only when I absolutely need to because it's no longer supporting what I need it to do. Bought one laptop in 2012 and didn't buy a replacement until around 2017 because the one I got in 2012 just wasn't working out for me and what I needed anymore. Kept the one I got in 2017 up until 2022, and I only upgraded then because I was finally ready to upgrade to a desktop and went ahead and made the jump since I found a good deal on what I wanted. I gave the laptop to my mom for her to use since I no longer had a need for it, and she used it up until last year when she got a newer laptop.

Since I've gotten this PC, I haven't had to make any upgrades to it (yet), but I probably will as time goes on and my needs change. I did get a Surface Pro though for portability since I do need/want that on occasion.

Only once. But the key is, replaceable parts. 6-7+ years and my computer is still pouring like a kitten since the day I got er.

I've had my oldest computer for 10 years before upgrading. Then when I had a job, I bought a whole brand new computer. Upgrade parts little by little. Today, I bought two pre-builds to do writing. The first one got surged by a storm. Glad to have a second one.

So, minimum 5 to 10 years. I actually need a new computer to do videos a little quicker.

It's been 10 years since I bought my laptop, and this is the year I'll get a new one. The only reason I'm getting a new one is because Windows is kind of forcing me to do so since they're not going to support Win 10 by the end of the year. I do most of my stuff online and this laptop has actually served me well and I'll be getting another Asus brand for that reason. It's a stay cool one and that's been amazing.

What she said.

Let's see... about every three/four years, but that was regarding the computers I've had before this one... where I've had it for over 13 years.

Also @Katrina, did you get an email from Microsoft telling you to upgrade recently? That's a new tactic of desperation from them must I tell you...

I don't know if I got the email since the email I use for that isn't one I use for anything else. I get the pop up on my screen once every couple of months that notifies me of the impending doom of Win 10.

You gotta have a gaming system then lol

I typically hang on to my PC parts for about 6 years or so. Recently upgraded everything except for my GPU to the newer generation. For being a AMD based PC its going to last for many years and upgrade-ability is even better. Had moved my older hardware over to live as a new homelab system that I'm playing around with. Eventually I'll replace the GPU in the near future since games are going to start getting past what I have for minimum specs.

I’d probably say I’m around the 5 year mark and it’s usually at that point I’ll upgrade the GPU etc rather than a whole new machine!

Just upgraded my MacBook. Had my prior one for 6 years. Have had my PC for about 7-8 years now.

I don't buy a new computer until the one I have start to malfunction.
