My experience with PostLoop
WOOOOO LONG EXPLANATION OF POSTLOOP. Anyway.
Hit Up Your Peers
I know this tends to be a, "DUH," but it's also something I've notice people forget. Have you made sure to advertise to all of your friends who are also into what your forum is about? Considering it's essentially a gaming forum you'd definitely want to invite any of your gamer buddies. My forum is focused more on RPing so I made sure to invite my RPing buddies first.
Social Media
For social media, do NOT bother paying via Facebook unless you just want random likes. People are paid to just click like and that's all that is. There isn't much targeting at all. So if you want to look stupid popular? Go for it. If you want to actually be popular? Don't.
My boss said his best two social medias so far have been Twitter and LinkedIn. So, if you can utilize those you'll be pretty golden in the social media department.
If you happen to know anyone good with marketing you can also hit them up for tips and whatnot. You can also Google marketing tips.

There's not much I can add on it that hasn't been said in this topic. They're very good points! Do some research and find what best suits your needs 😀
Content
Content is muy importante and not much I can add about it that hasn't already been said. You can also research for forum topics or check out popular forums to see what sort of topics they used.
I hope that helps! 😀 If I think of anything else to add I will. The stuff I've read so far in this topic are super duper helpful already
PostLoop can be useful, but it has some limitations and; you need to make sure you setup your rules on there a certain way or you'll get some bad seeds. I've had to revoke at least one person and warn a few who were blatantly ignoring the rules they are forced to read prior to subscribing.
How much is spent with PostLoop is 100% up to you though. If you have enough free time, then I would advise actually posting on other forums first. By posting on forums you are subscribed to on PostLoop you increased your post count without having to spend money. Most forums listed offer a max of 5 posts allowed per day, so if you're a fast poster you can rank those up pretty quick. If you can get 100-200 points on there, then go ahead and open up your forum there so people can come post through it.
However, keep in mind these are temporary members. They can convert the points into cash, so essentially they are getting paid to post on your forum. If you disable your forum for whatever reason it is very unlikely they will continue posting unless they are unaware you disabled the site.
What's nice though is you can control the rating of the members you get from 1-5 and in between. This means you can actually put 4.5 instead of just 4 or 5. Originally I started at a 3 which is where I got the crummy member from. Now I have it set to 4.5 (I believe? Or maybe 4) and so far it's been fine. I've gotten two people who obviously don't understand PostLoop and didn't properly subscribed, but it still works.
The best times to active your site are during the summer and winter breaks. A lot of the people on PostLoop are actually college students. Some of them are older and they'll pop up whenever; but we've primarily gotten people from PostLoop during school breaks.
You can also control how many times they can post a day on your forum where they'll get points. Most forums do 5 posts a day. This makes it so your points can last longer, but they still get points for posting. It's up to them if they post more. Sometimes they will if they're really interested in something.
However, revoking them can be a bit complicated. You can't revoke someone just because they are inactive or some other petty reason. They have to have legitimately broken your rules, so if you're the type who wants to get rid of people who aren't active... won't work. I'm not like that, but I've seen some admins that are. The one time I did revoke someone was because they broke about 50%+ of the rules I put in place when getting points from my forum.
