I have a confession to make...

Don't fret over it bro, it takes more guts to admit something like this to such a large amount of people it's unreal. And lots of the people on this site admire you and are your friends, so to do it to them and risk losing a friendship(s) is a very courageous thing to do.

No harm done anyway, I don't think this will have affected anyone, no respect lost from me, if anything, I have gained respect for you 🙂

Only those that are the ones who have done worse and need to turn attention away from themselves refuse to forgive you.

What makes lying about the military so much different from lying about working for Microsoft? It's a government program that people take seriously?

Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar company that is taken seriously as well. Even if people here know people that are close to them that are in the military and it offends them, that is understandable, but it is the Internet. What do you expect?

One job requires you to risk ending up in a body bag and the other doesn't. That's why people treat the military and other jobs(police, firefighting, etc.) that require a constant risk of death more highly then any other job. It doesn't mean it should be treated differently just why people do that.

It's much like how I wonder how someone could say lying is wrong but be capable of explaining away why lying in one place means nothing while lying elsewhere is wrong. It doesn't mean you can't forgive someone for it but at least treat it the same no matter where it happens. A lot of what you do online amongst your fellow members requires having their trust and the moment you start showing a pattern of lying is when some people will start to trust you less.

As for me, I don't know this person so can't say it affects me all that much just never got the appeal in creating a fake identity on the internet. If I don't want to answer a question then I just don't and couldn't care less if anyone has a problem with it.

Couldn't agree more, that is pretty much what I came up with.
