I need to purchase a few domains for some of my niche sites that I'm starting and I want to know if GoDaddy is the place to buy those domains. I have never purchased a domain from GoDaddy but heard some good and bad things about the site. I can't really afford to make a mistake on this. I already have my hosting in place and would want to move my domain to my own hosting or direct it to my new site. They have really good prices but that might not be good enough. I need some honest opinions as to whether or not Godaddy is the right company to deal with for domain names.

I recommend hover.com. It's a bit more expensive than godaddy, but the domain privacy is free, and they don't try and trick you into buying additional services.

I've used Godaddy before, though. It's not terrible, but the website is kind of a pain to use and the ads are annoying.

GoDaddy get's you in the door with their amazing deals, ".COM for only .99!!!".

Then they up the renewal price for dollars more than the average price. They charge large prices for Contact Privacy Protection. Overall, they are a big business in the business to run a business. All those Super Bowl commercials aren't cheap and somebody (YOU) have to pay for them.

I appreciate that you are researching this before you just go out and spend too much.

I'd like for you to look at my prices and all that I offer. I'm not saying to buy your domains from me, but at least do homework before you commit yourself to any domain registrar.

Especially from somebody like GoDaddy 😀

I never had any problems with them, but you have to be very careful and make sure they are not selling you extra services you don't need.

There are domain registrars which I'd much rather deal with for a lot of reasons, including how annoying Godaddy's system is. Usually I use Hover as my main registrar.

I definitely recommend GoDaddy as registrar for the first year. After the first year, either you can pay them huge renewal fees or can transfer to another good registrar. Their DNS Propagation takes less than half-an-hour to complete.

It seems to me that it's not worth the hassle of doing a transfer to get a slightly better first year price.

I have been using only Godaddy for over a decade and never had a problem with them.

The only thing I don't like about godaddy is all the in-your-face offers you have to bypass every time you do anything.

Using namecheap now because of that and also I saved a few bucks on my renewal by transferring.

GoDaddy also supported some pretty shady stuff over the years. I used them once, after the fees and transfer issues they slapped on me I said never again. Now I only ever use Namecheap and have no intentions of changing that.

There is no need to choose a host with the "fastest" ticket response time, but choose one who you feel you communicate well with. A host who understands your specific needs, and who can sit down with you and talk about what your needs are, and how that host can accommodate for those needs.

Go daddy is one of the best domain service provider
I also agree with this. I've been using Godaddy domain for almost 8 years till now and didn't have any problem with them. If you're lucky enough you will sometimes buy domains with very cheap price because they occasionally offer coupons for new orders.
If you're going to buy domain and need some coupons, PM me, then I will have some for you.

Good luck to you,

Godaddy is good for domains as I mention before. However hosting is not good since the support is crap other then the other support. gotta say that there support is way better then host gator

I have never had a problem with GoDaddy except that the renewal prices are high. You can also try Namecheap. Its good too 😀

We're currently registered with GoDaddy, but I've heard from one of our administrators that if you are late renewing for some reason, they can try to charge you 1,000s to get your domain back if they think you're willing to pay for it. Happened to him. There is supposed to be a window to pay, but they don't always honour it. So far, we haven't had any issues with them though.

I haven't heard anything bad about NameCheap and has been recommended a lot.

When renewing your domains at Godaddy, try to change your default currency to INR currency (India Rupee, Rs), then you will get discount 20% - 27% off. That's a best way to renew at GD now.

Godaddy is good if you want to be spammed on every page of their site. Use Namecheap.

I have been a happy GoDaddy customer for many years, however, they have conducted some unethical business practices in early January, and it is to the point where I need to get my lawyer involved. I would not recommend them.
