Maybe it's just me, but it seems like ever since Steve Jobs has passed, all innovation has left the iPhone. Sure, they brought in a new connector, and of course, upgrade the specifications. But compare the jump from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5, compared to the jump from the 3GS to the 4.

So my question; do you think the lack of innovation is due mostly to Steve's absence, or do you simply think there's not much more that they can do?

It's a phone. I think Apple should get out of the current hardware war with Samsung, and just decide to come out with useful phones. Once again, it's still a phone. Make it easier for people to talk. Improve the camera. Make it more eco-friendly. Add more designs. Things like that.

Isn't it already pretty easy to use though? The camera in the iPhone 5 compares to an actual Nikon camera pretty well.

Eco friendly could be a next step, I like that though. I'd love to see colors and more customization from the factory. It would be a chore, but no one has done it!

If its just a phone, why improve the camera?

Unfortunately, more than being a mobile, these have to now meet the demands of the users who are using it as some small personal phone-and-computer type of things.

if its just a phone, then why add apps? Why add games? calculators?

I think with technology advancements the way they are, it becomes harder to truly innovate something - it's much easier to expand upon something that already exists.

Not exactly. It's more about the sensors than megapixels. If Apple wants photographers to start taking iPhone cameras seriously, it has a lot of work to do. Can it be done? Yes, the technology exists for better mobile cameras.

@Panda,

I agree with you about the eco-friendly and customization. Imagine if Apple made the iPhone highly customizable? That would be a huge advantage in the market.

Human nature eventually gets tired of the same thing over and over. How would you like it if the iPhone 33 had just a few hardware upgrades, but was in part the same as it is today?

I remember hearing something my dad said that is true in business.... Do or Die. You can't not do and expect to survive.

The iPhone just needs decent hardware, and mainly a more powerful OS. It doesn't need to be the king of hardware to become the most popular smartphone. All it really needs is decent hardware and a major OS upgrade.

Then, you can add other features in. Maybe a clearer camera? Maybe new features? A new design? Much more customizability?

The innovation really has to be in the software. Hardware advancements are nice for a tech junkie, but that's not the average consumer. You win that consumer with software innovations. You sort of see it with what Samsung is trying to do with the Galaxy S4.

Yes and no. Apple has changed a lot under cooks power.

Apple has not lost it, recent changes in its executive area will help them. Samdung must die and stop putting stupid crap on their devices.

I do miss Steve, Apple would be better off.

But Apple has stuff in its plans.

I stopped thinking about your post when you talked about the Galaxy S4...

The head of innovation will always be at Nexus and HTC. Samsung is just good at marketing. I doubt there is anything to learn from the S4.

And you're underestimating the impact of hardware, which really brought the S3 to light.

There is always things to improve and innovate. Steve Jobs was a great innovator, and i believe Apple is not as innovative it used to be after his death.

They should try to bring new things to their product rather than messing up with their competitors.

I think part of the problem was that most corporations just care about money and numbers. Steve Jobs was able to look beyond that. Not many people can do the same, unfortunately.

While I agree with you, what kind of things could you bring to a smartphone? What more could people want? Sure, it's hard to think of future ideas, but I really feel satisfied with my iPhone.

You're actually right. 🙂 I'd like to see minor changes though. Maybe make it more eco-friendly. Produce it locally? And make adjustments to the camera, etc. As for the CPU war, I just don't understand it. 😛 It's a phone at the end of the day.

Our "phones" are much more than phones, today. I think that's pretty obvious. We've basically got the modern day Leatherman in our pocket. That's where innovation comes in. Our phones have become a multi-tool. It literally holds everything we think we'll need and more.

I think Value for money and, Build quality, I was thinking of buying a apple product, but there not made in the us anymore...

It doesn't have to be made in the U.S to have build quality.

Nevertheless, I'd like to see some manufacturing here. But I want more small businesses lol.
