Yeah, phpBB3 custom skin wouldn't cost that much, you can get it for cheaper.

Good IPB custom themes are $200.

If you ever have the privilege to deal with IPB's customer service, then go for it. Much better deal than vBulletin.

If anything, go with MyBB or SMF for free forum software. Neither require any file editing when installing mods and plugins.

Go for IPB. They have a free automatic theme generator for paying customers. Then get someone to design images for you. That can range from free (if you have my connections 😛) to ~$30.

Total cost: $180.

I've used phpBB forever but recently got together with someone to work on a new forum project and we're using IPB. My personal recommendation: go with IPB.

Good, custom IPB themes can be around double the price of the actual license.

Hmm, I didn't actually give reasons why IPB3 is better then phpBB and it's the same for the phpBB lovers.

Anyway here are my reasons for thinking IPB3 > phpBB

*MODs are much faster & easier to install.
*The support is superb and more professional
*More features by default (including reputation/quick reply etc)
*More secure
*Easier to moderate with moderation options available without even having to view the topic.
*Better default theme

Well, to be honest with you, modifications in most other forum software do not require the amount of file edits phpBB required. It actually interested me (being both a MyBB/IPB user) that Reputation AND Admin CP Live Search came in IPB 3.0, when it came in MyBB 1.4, which was released a year before. Don't get me wrong though, phpBB is very secure now. At least they don't have MODs which were security fixes like in phpBB 2.
