Well. vBulletin is cheaper used these days.

I personally prefer the UI of vBulletin, but some of the things IPB has I can't fault. Go for whichever you prefer.

It will take you a while to get used to the backend of vBulletin

For its Spam Service, built-in SEO, and its support, you bet I'm going to pick IPB over vBulletin and its Internet Brands empire any day. vBulletin used to be good, then when Kier left, they lost their future. The exact same pricing controversy is going to happen again in 2011, when vBulletin 5 is coming out =/. I honestly want to know how much Kier (or vB 3) code is in that thing, cause they promised a full rewrite slowly by 4.5.

IPB is great, they offer great support and there mods are better then Vbull. Its $25 every 6months for support via forums, ticket, phone etc.. But you dont have to pay every 6months. But its advised to to stay on top of the forum version.

I don't think IPB has the variety or quality of mods just yet as vBulletin has. 😉
This is true. IPB does not have as many mods as VB does, but to be quite honest, what the hell do you need them for? You're making a brand new starter forum. You just need the basics. You don't need all the crazy mods vB has. And with the new versions and codes coming out, many of these mods will probably become outdated.

IPB's support is really what makes it top over vB.

Well, I am now officially a IPB client. Just bought a used IPB license with Branding Free for a good price.

Really good actually. For $60, I got the used IPB 3 license that expires in March 2011, and the branding free permission that never expires.

IPB License go for about $149.99 & the IP.Board Copyright Footer Removal goes for $275, a total investment of $425. I got it for $60.

IPB has FAR less mods then VB. Also, I do believe the gold edition of VB 3.8 series is far less server intensive than IPB is (with mods and themes)

Even then, IPB added a lot of AJAX stuff, and was lighter than its 2.3 product.

Where'd you get that deal? I didn't think you could get an unbranded IPB for that cheap.

I got it from Digital Points. Hw was originally selling it for $160 and dropped the $100 for me. 🙂

As long as he mostly has good iTrader, you're good. I guess you got lucky. Be sure to change the security questions, as I don't necessarily trust Digital Point.

Well, I have him on MSN and he seems like a pretty good person. While we were doing the deal, he allowed me to go into the IPB account and change up all the details before I paid the money.
