We all know that people come to watch whenever drama occurs on a forum. It doesn't happen a lot on Christianity Haven, but there are times when it does happen and then come the gapers. But is that the type of activity you really want?

What are your thoughts on drama bringing activity to your site? Do you relish it or do you cringe? Do you take advantage of when other sites are having drama to boost activity on your own forum?

It's certainly not the type of content I want on my forum. Drama really makes your community look bad and uninviting IMO.

Drama is definitely not something I would want on my forum at all. It not only brings a negative atmosphere but also gives you as the forum owner and also your brand name a bad reputation as well that can have ever-lasting repercussions for a long time after the drama has ended.

I would much rather have a chill forum where everyone can hang out, stress-free and discuss what matters to them.

Unfortunately, you can't always control the behavior of others, or how others from competing forums behave who thrive on the drama and try their best to make it seem worse than it really is.

What I always ask myself is, where does the drama originate from? In most cases it's always the same answer, lol. Pity. Some things never change and will always be a drama place.

Hypothetically, what measures would you put into place to cut down on said drama?

Most people who cause drama think they’re better. Disrespecting others. So it’s easy to point a finger but the issue lies with the person themselves.

I can honestly say we had a minimal of drama on AJ so far and the drama we did have was usually quickly resolved without members noticing.

Drama is like a pile of shit. And we, humans, are the flies being attracted to it.

I've come across several members like that. Best thing to do is ignore them and learn what actions trigger them. I'm of the mind to let sleeping dogs lie. However, there are those that can't help themselves and get a rise out of kicking the dog.

True. It is best to keep things confidential and deal with those things quietly while keeping the environment of one's forum in a positive atmosphere and be laid back.

Middle school was pretty bad.

Drama is inevitable sadly. But then again, you have those who have no problem in producing some and then wonder why they get the drama. 😉

Understanding individual differences is the key factor to avoiding dramas on a forum. I wouldn't want to see lots of drama occur on my forum and that is why I don't let minimal issues escalate when it pops up because you can't control how others react on a situation.

Drama naturally occurs. If it is drama between members - this can typically get hashed out between themselves without staff or other members stepping in. If it is drama between staff - I've never observed it openly, but if it can be contained to PMs or even in a staff room, I think that is manageable. Sometimes people just need to talk about what is upsetting them and then it can be resolved.

Sometimes people don't agree with another and this can cause tension. As an adult, or a mature person, if you can handle this with dignity I think there will be less drama. Say I don't like someone or something happening, I will choose who I talk to. We have the ability to choose our surroundings and I think no one should be judged on that. I know back quite some time ago I remember this situation would form drama, but this was also the time where most of us were like 15 lol.

Drama is the price one pays to live in a world where people think differently from each other. You can either let it break you or you can learn to live with it. I have found from my experiences that most drama is caused by the staff itself as they are the one who start it yet complain about its existence at the same time. It's quite funny to be honest.

Is that your experience, that staff always causes drama? My experience has been the opposite.

Drama is something I hate seeing on a forum. It's just an excuse to stir the pot. There's room for civil discourse, but there has to be boundaries that everyone respects. Things should be handled privately when possible, member-related issues should be handle in conversations, and cross-site drama should be handled with a modicum of respect. Grievances should be handled quietly and then, if no resolution can be found, agree to disagree and be done with it.

I don't get any drama on the forums I own or those that I manage which provide customer support. The last time I had to ban someone was nearly 12 years ago.

And that's exactly how to do it 🙂

There's no way having drama on your forum is going to be healthy for your forum. It can lead to chaos and restlessness of some members. I don't like being involved with anything that's full of drama. I will quit the forum instantly.

Definitely not. In my case most of it has been caused by many forum admins on my forum. Jealousy is a curse.
