Is Gimp good?

For 98% of users, Gimp will get their work done like Photoshop, but PS is overall (obviously) a bit better, though the hefty pricetag makes it impractical to get for most people.

I'm sure it does. I didn't find it to be intuitive, though. For most of what I want to do, I now use Pixelmator.

With gimp you can do everything like with Adobe Photoshop. There is in my eyes no difference except you need to pay lot of money for Photoshop software. It is only a matter of habit.

I like the GIMP, mainly because it's cross-platform (runs on Windows, as well as Linux and Mac OS X), while Photoshop is only partially cross-platform (if you run it on WINE thru Linux). It's also pretty full featured, enough to give Adobe a run for their money in my opinion.

GIMP is a great program to start out with! If you are really into graphics, then you should invest in a program like Photoshop or Pixelmator.

GIMP is a very nice software. It's good to use when beginning to learn to do graphics. However once you become very good, you should invest into a program like photoshops as it's better. It's not to say that GIMP is not good, in fact it's very good but photoshop is just a better software.

I've tried GIMP. After using Photoshop for so many years I find GIMP -- different. I bet it could do nearly everything photoshop can do but for those of us that are diehard Photoshop, it's just enough different to create a learning curve.

There are a lot of things that are easier and faster to do in Photoshop, but you could still potentially do in GIMP with plugins and enough work. At the same time, GIMP is free and Photoshop is ~$1000. I use Photoshop, but I don't plan on paying for upgrades any time soon.

I use Gimp more now.. and I have become not bad actually 😛

I started out designing in GIMP (2.6) because my computer at the time wasn't good enough to run Photoshop. I had a netbook, so it did good to run GIMP, Firefox and Skype at the same time most days...

Anyways, GIMP isn't a bad choice especially for getting started or just casual use. It's definitely not Photoshop and there's reason it's free and PS isn't (other than Adobe being greedy...). If you want to get into serious design, photo editing, etc. then Photoshop is the better choice. GIMP is a good choice if you're just messing around with minor graphics and edits.

I've never really liked GIMP (as the matter of fact, I once downloaded it and tried to use it, but ended up annoyed and getting PhotoShop), but I suppose it could be an option for those not willing / unable to purchase PhotoShop.However, if you really want to design, I would get PhotoShop if I were you.

I've never tried Gimp to be honest. I have always used photoshop and other Adobe products for graphic deign.

I'm a big Photoshop fan. I switched to Photoshop from GIMP and I love it.

I've done the same. GIMP isn't terrible, but I wouldn't call it the best. GIMP got me into working with graphics, editing, creating, etc. I now use PS CS5.1 and would highly recommend it. You can do pretty much anything you'd want to accomplish with PS.

Is the software Gimp good?

I want to try it out but I want to know if its good or not and what's the difference between it and photoshop.

Photoshop is better!!! 🙂
