Ok so today a recruiter talked to us about libing on our own and the expesnses. He said the army can pay for a lot of it.
Also he said they have free time and had a vid camera and showed us them chasing camels
back on topic...
Should they do this?

Recruiters make every thing like that seem better than it really is. Trust me, I have a Navy recruiter talk to me. He made it seem like a bunch of fun and then I talked to a friend in the navy and they wanted to leave before their 4 yr term and if they wanted to leave, they would never get a job because they would be counted as "leave" or something like that from the Navy.

That's true. Many of my friends are going and I know they are making a mistake by going to army. I mean why go just for money? If your going, do it for the good of the country, not for money. Money is only an object.

Yeah, I wanted to join the national gaurd but I mean when you even it all out it is a bad idea

Yeah, same here. I was thinking about the Navy and then I changed my mind quickly when I read more about it.

I was in the Army .... Just got home March 27th of this year due to a medical discharge for knee problems ... have to have a few surgeries before I can get back in. But I will get back in and continue! I am a 21B (Combat Engineer) which is infantry that carries explosives like C4, Deck Cord ... so on. So it is a 11B (Infantry) with explosives.

If you go in for the right reasons its GREAT. If you go in misinformed and thinking something other then what it is ... it will be the worst thing. It is a once in a life time experience that you will never forget and many people don't get the chance to do. I am not a recruiter and will honestly tell you to not listen to a single thing a recruiter tells you they want their 2k bonus off you ... so another words they could care less. I can tell you if you join the Army it is the one branch that you choose 100% the EXACT job you want when you go to MEPS and that job you choose you will 100% get or else if you don't get it ... it says on your contact that you can 100% void your contract and leave and keep all pay and bonuses promised to you. It is a new thing they started almost 2 years ago. No other branch offers that. That is one great thing about the Army that you wont be nervous your gonna be doing something you didn't want. So read up A LOT and talk to re life fighting soldiers not recruiters! There are many sites and forums that have real life soldiers (not recruiters) that will talk and answer any questions.

Which relates to what I said about the recruiters. They just want their money and will say anything good. Notice they never say the downfalls to joining.

Right .... I tend to stay directly out of these conversations because of what my role was in the war there is only so much legally I can say to a civilian ... some though I can still talk about. I could say brief pros and cons ... pros I think out weigh the cons but I knew what I was getting into as I grew in a full military family.

That might be so where you live.

But here the recruiter is responsible for fully informing you, up and down sides.

I think every able bodied young man should serve at least one tour in anyone of the branches of military. That being said, I talked to Navy , and Marine recruiters. The Navy recruiter feed me the biggest line of bull. I knew before hand what the military was about and knew what I was getting into.

I dont know where you live. Here in the US YES the recruiters have to tell you what you can benefit from being in the military as well as what you wouldnt have if you didnt join. But they also feed you a LOT of sh!t about it too. They will add in anything that they can to get you to join so they can make their commission off of you no mater what branch they are recruiting you for.

There is a reason that recruiters wives hate what they do !

As far as the Army being a way out ! NO, I dont really agree with that. However the military CAN provide you with a lot of things that you may not be able to get with a civilian job. The military doesnt lay off, as long as you dont f-up, then you have a stable income, have the chance to move up in rank (make more money), have full benefits (100% coverage on insurance, 401K, etc), Active Duty gets BAH to cover your rent/mortgage if you live off base.

My brother is ANG (Army national Guard) Cavalry. My husband is Active Duty Air Force (C-17 Crewchief). Without that military pay, we would not be able to make it where we live. We wouldnt be able to support our children. The military pay, allows me to stay home with my kids instead of putting them in daycare everyday, they have full coverage insurance. Many kids or non working spouses these days dont even have insurance at all.

The military is NOT for everyone, but if you make the best of it, it can be great !

As i said, Thats how it works in the US.

When i signed up for the army in the Netherlands, I was fully informed about everything that could happen, and will happen.
The recruiter did his job well. Thusfar i do not regret joining the 43th

Joining the military, for the most part nowadays, is a mistake. It seems that people in the army are being used for ulterior motives and agendas. The only good reason to join the army is to defend the gift of life and freedom. The way I see it, there is nothing glorious or noble about that. Defending from evil forces who want to take freedom away is in nature, and to make it a supernatural ideal by portraying it as glorious and noble, as those lame GoArmy.com advertisements do, is to make life and and freedom seem unnatural and unreal. Then they say that another good reason to join is because all your needs will be tended too. That, combined with the first recruiting method, also applies a cheap price to life and freedom. If you ponder it closely, it is a very similar parallel to the Borg society in Star Trek. The army as it is portrayed and looked upon nowadays is not an escape. It is an entrapment. It is madness.
