Hey tech people. πŸ˜€

My laptop tend to get really hot to the point where the keyboard gets hot. Now, I've tried to put some supports under the laptop to prompt it up, but it doesn't seem to help.

I know over heating could be caused by something internal, but I think there could be some other common problems that lead to it. Anyone got any ideas?

(The laptop is an Acer)

Put it in the freezer.

Seriously, I have no idea. Don't use it too much.

Do you always have the power plugged in?

What do you mean by 'power plugged in'? You mean is my laptop always on?

Ok, laptops need a power cord, one end into the wall socket, the other end into the laptop. Is it constantly charging?

Ohhh ok. Ya. My laptop battery seemed to go down so fast, so I figured to just leave it charging 24-7.

Overcharging can cause the batter to overheat causing it to be ineffective as a battery. So really, it goes down fast because you may have overcharged it once, and then now you are overcharging it again and again, making the condition even worse. You may want to buy a new battery.

I would say when the laptop is off, unplug it, and when it is on, plug it back in, but not for long periods of time. It may help, though it is still damaged.

Omg I hate acers. I had an acer and it overheated in 2 hours, without battery. I would turn it off every few hours. With my first acer is messed up because I left it on for a week πŸ˜•

My laptop used to overheat (now got a new one) and it was because my fan had gone, my laptop used to make quite a loud noise when i was using high-resource programs, so i ended up only keeping it plugged in when necessary, having screen brightness on the lowest, and trying not to use programs that make my fan go woooooooo πŸ˜›

It helped, although i'm sure my laptop was the main source for global warming in this world, it got verrry hot.

My new current laptop when I feel the fan there is no heat basically and its on high performance.

Sometimes my fan goes wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo(and goes on forever and ever, amen πŸ˜›) then it turns off. I don't worry about it. Whenever I go, I just close it and it goes on sleep. That's why you should get Mac, not PC πŸ˜› It's more immune to viruses, and less problems XD

I remember my Toshiba Laptop of PURE EVIL.

Second terrible thing encountered - Overheating.

Most easily resolved issue - I inverted my laptop.

I flipped it over and used it upside down LIKE A BOSS.

Well i'm using a newer Acer, and it seems to be fine. It doesn't ever really overheat. That being said, I usually use a cooling pad anyway as I got it for the holidays.

I leave mine plugged in while using the web, since it drains so much. That being said every few days i'll let it drain all the way down and charge all the way back up.

Please refrain from giving ANY sort of computer advise if you are telling people to use a mac. πŸ™‚

THEY FAIL!

You can't do a mass lot on them, they are easily hacked, unsafe, cost more and they do have a lot of viruses for them πŸ˜‰

Linux is the only distro that has a small ammout of viruses for them.

I will also state that many of my friends mac's AND the mac's in my college crash more than the windows computers.

:great:

About the overheating, purchase a external fan to place under the laptop, keeps it nice and cool. πŸ™‚
(Mine has blue neon with it)

External fans can get annoying having to carry them places, I have one. But, if your careful. Take the casing off the bottom that covers the fan and make sure there is not any dust caked up in there that is restricting the fan.

Also, try not to cover ANY of the slots on the bottom of the laptop. When people get laptops, they start doing something wrong the first hour they get it..Which is putting it on their lap on a couch or bed. That makes the nobs on the bottom that is quarter of an inch useless. You need to have it on a desk or some hard surface to make sure the hot air can escape. External fans tend to push the hot air back into the laptop, thus making it worse.

If you decide to take the casing off, be careful. Take a vacume with a small tip and get all the dust you can find out from the fan. Also, if the fan is failing, DO NOT use your laptop and purchase a new laptop fan designed exactly for that model.

Also about the charging theory. Yes, charging it all the time DOES infact mess the battery up. I have 2 laptops that the battery was destroyed from being charged 24/7. ONLY charge a battery when it needs charging. This means do not use it for a little while and start charging in the middle of the battery. Let it run out till it tells you to start charging again. This helps make the battery life a lot longer.

Hope I gave you some tips.

Just to add on here. Linux is a kernal πŸ˜‰. It is gnu and all the other stuff added on top of it to make it an os.

Anyways Mac is indeed very unsecure. They have gotten hacked twice under 2 minutes at the pwn2own contests.

They also have quite alot of malware.

Now as for Linux it aswell has had malware too. Plus distributions like ubuntu are very insecure...

So do not give out false info πŸ˜‰.

Who said I was giving out faulse info? I said it has LESS viruses designed for it then mac or windows, which is true.

I was also talking from MY distro, Xubuntu which is secure as hell. Also the fact that you can publically edit your distro to make it more secure in your own way helps. I am using a modded version of Xubuntu that my friend coded. It has one of the most secure enryptions around for it. Nothing is saved either.

I was not correcting you but adding on.

Also xbuntu and any buntu is unsecure.

Want proof check the security mailing list πŸ˜‰. Or look at this video that takes advantage of the sudo 15 minute timeout - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HxFGQ8OpYw
