Laptops VS Desktops

Laptop, because I would not use a desktop again when I had been killed by dust build-up in its tower far too many times. And also, I hated on having to turn the monitor on and then the computer itself. Sometimes the monitor won't go on from this. To add, I was unable to put my desktops into sleep where as for the laptop, I can just close the lid.

Been using this laptop for six and a half years now, and still going strong 🙂

Huh? Turning on the PC tower and the monitor was too much work for you? Also in terms of dust build up there are covers you can buy for a tower to keep it clean when not in use. Or you can open up your tower and clean out any dust particles that are inside from time to time, like most people do.

Looks like you misread my post. I said that when I turn on the monitor and then the tower, sometimes the monitor won't show the display and I have to turn off the power and then try again. Seems that I had a dodgy connection or something because, it never happened to the past two desktops never had that problem.

Also, it's the cleaning part that's definitely too much work for me. You have no idea how frustrated I was when trying to do it myself only then for me to fuck the whole thing up, such as accidentally damaging the fans and crap. That's why I have a laptop so that I don't have to put up with it again.

Besides, you can get towers that are more compact and therefore don't have too much space in them but, I had heard that this may affect the ventilation around it, but still.

Ya of-course laptop, because it's easy to handle and carry, But, Nevertheless desktop is more preferable the then laptop

I always promoted laptop over desktop until recently.
Laptops are nice to carry around, but purpose become useless if you always keep them at home as desktop.

I own a mini desktop now, it has no battery, but is very light and takes even less space than a laptop.
And saving space in Japan is always absurdly important.

Ok, I gotcha. Yeah, those are called "microtowers." My current PC is actually a micro/hornet tower PC. They're a lot thinner, sleeker and stealthier for transport than the thicker chubby towers. They also don't get dirty or dusty as fast either because there's not as much open space. You can purchase a PC tower dust cover to ensure your tower stays clean as well. If not that, try cutting a piece of cloth and taping or zip-locking it around the fan holes in the back of your PC tower when your computer isn't on and in use. So the fans will stay dust free. Lastly, keep your PC area clean by dusting once a week or bi-weekly. No dust in the PC area, no dust in the PC.

The problem with laptops is people are over-using them. Your desktop should be what you do home or office work on regularly. It is built to handle the workload, internet capabilities, etc. Your laptop is for travel. On a plane, train, bus. When you're staying at a hotel and need to be 'plugged in' maybe to write an email, do some social media work, shopping online, etc. People have their functions crossed now, expecting laptops to replace desktops. It can work for awhile, this kind of arrangement. But overtime, your battery and laptop functionality will fail because you're using it too often for heavy duty stuff. Particularly gaming and being online for hours on end. Some people also leave their laptops running when they're not using them for some reason, and the constant recharging of the battery shortens its life span considerably. At the end of the day, you need a steady supply of power to run a computer for long periods of time. You can only get that from a wall socket.

Well, my laptop is still going strong as I've had it for six and half years, and that I always have it on AC power so, I'm using it as a "desktop" in such a way. Especially with a mouse and external speakers attached to it also (more for the latter because, the laptop's own speakers just plain suck).

I prefer desktops just because I can customize it how I want, but I like laptops as well for the sake of convenience.

Used a laptop for eight years during high school. Used a PS2/PS3 to game.

Got a desktop. Never going back. Just waiting for RAM and GPU pricing to fall to sensible levels. 🙄

Desktops are obviously going to be more powerful in most cases, but i settled for a laptop. I use it for school, and need it in class.

I like Laptops if you absolutely need a computer outside of home / work. I will use a Desktop before a Laptop any day of the week though. I like having my multiple monitors and what not. Desktops are just so much better all around in my opinion.

I agree. If it wasn’t for my need for portability, I would’ve had invested in building my own beast of a desktop.

Desktops are amazing! Do you run a Gaming Laptop or more business?

I think I should mention that while I am a laptop user, it's actually a desktop/laptop set-up and I will explain... I still have the speakers and keyboard of my previous computer 😉

I have a Dell XPS 15, i do play some games on it but its more of a business laptop. It has an NVIDIA GTX 1050.

I really like those laptops! Thinking of getting the new one with the i7-8750H for school.

Go for it! August should have some great back to school deals, and if you chat with them, they take another 10% off for being a student.
