How can that be enforced? How can one completely ensure that there is no fluid transmission between the two partners? What if one has an open cut? Should both parties undergo rigorous physical examinations before having sex?

It's what the laws are in Nevada. I'm not saying it's always enforced but prostitutes are only legal in brothels and the owners are meant to keep up with that. Obviously would be difficult to enforce on the streets, but I don't think that form should be legalized anyway. A high percentage of murders are related to prostitutes, a lot safer in a brothel.

I dont think it's a good idea to make prostitution legal. The status quo is fine, if we do make it legal, I don't want to have to see prostitutes on the corner of my street every day/night.
That's not what I would mean by legalizing prostitution. Simply allowing counties to vote on whether or not to allow brothels in them would be the perfect solution. Safer for the prostitutes, and if people don't want brothels near them they would be able to vote on it.mainland marauder said:

Prostitution is stupid. I don't understand why you have to pay somebody to have sex with you? If you're that desperate for sex, then it's just morally wrong. Paying someone to do something dirty. First of all if you're religious you're breaking a commandment and sinning, and if you take a step back and look at what you're doing, it's just wrong.

Make it legal and offer tests to search for STDs/STIs. That way people won't abuse it as much theoretically and all make the people offering the services safer. It would be much better to legalize it really. On the whole it would make peopler safer, take time but it'd be worth it.

Well not just that but most STDs aren't just simple blood tests either. Still though, it's better than the current system of nothing.

Sex is not just a lustful thing, it's also a normal human urge. There are many people out there for what ever reason that find the use of a prostitute very handy, take a physically or mentally handicapped person for example who can not find a partner to share their needs with? A prostitute will have few boundaries and provides a useful service to these in need. Many men, who for what ever reason can no-longer have sex with their wives, will often seek out a prostitute to satisfy their needs with their wife's permission (maybe she is going through a particularly bad menopause) as this is seen as not actually cheating. Don't forget also ...this profession also services the needs of the prostitute, it pays her bills, feeds her children, pays for her drugs etc.
If it's legalized, then it should minimize domestic violence. Many women are doing it on the low low anyway. When their boyfriend, husband or baby daddy find out she's been prostituting it usually end up in a domestic violence case. I say make it legal... if they want to do it let them... Make them get tested every so often. I feel if legal it would help, because there wouldnt be pimps forcing them to do this stuff as much as they do.
