Make a promotion forum or leave it for a while?

I currently run a promotional forum (YourAdPromotion) and it goes pretty well. Once you make friends with the users, they will usually come back everyday to talk to you.

I say go for it and make everything unique 🙂 I believe you can do it.

I have decided to leave it for a while as all I can use is phpBB3 and those MODs are a pain and take too long to do. 🙁 Is MyBB successful for a promotion forum?

Almost all of the promotion forums I have been on since September 2008 have been on PHPBB to some degree. I have only been on one or two that are on MyBB and only one for sure on Zetaboards. PHPBB is popular for Promotion forums because the mods you can add are endless. The points mod is popular for services as is the rep mod, especially if you want to rep someone for a job well done if they've done your service well. So definetly PHPBB.

I wouldn't dare use Joomla for a ad site lol. I can't get user groups so I would have to do all the work by myself & with my administrators. 🙁

I didn't say anything on Joomla. Or are you commenting on an earlier post? I would never use Joomla anyway myself as I have heard too many bad things about it. I remember being on one ad forum that was on Joomla and the administrator had everyone on mod queue, whether they made decent posts or not. I don't know if it was an accident, or if that's just the way his version of Joomla was, but I would never go back to a site where everyone had to be on mod queue no matter what.

I would recommend either Zetaboards or Invision Free.. there are many code and theme sites out there that you can find to help you setup your boards.. 😉

I would not recommend using IF or ZB. IF is old and outdated and it is not the most secure thing out there 😉 ZB in my opinion doesn't look appealing and as with all free hosts, both of these are limited. You can't add new features or mods yourself and you can't get access to the forum db to backup and move hosts. You will be stuck with them for ever.

If you get a web host and install a forum software. You can then install what you want, edit what you want and convert to whatever forum software you want when you want. If you host causes you problems, you can move. Forums can be successful using whatever forum software you want.

Well, MyBB is good, and Litesoft (http://litesoft.info) is coded to be like vB (even though it is coded off of MyBB...)

I am using a Site Frost account so I wouldn't have any issues with the space as I can just upgrade. 😀 Even with my site at the moment with the ability to upload 'My Pix' gallery items, Avatars & Gallery items.

I think that promotion forums will soon overpower. I mean, in the future, there will probably be ONLY promotion forums... and if there's only promotion forums, then what other forums are there to promote? There will just be promotion forums being promoted on other promotion forums, and so forth so on (if you understand what I'm saying.)

But anyway, try making one for fun to see where it gets. I made ForuMansion and tried my best to be original and stand out from the other promotion forums by adding many different icons for each section of the categories and forums, having a different and convenient design, and heck... we even got our little ForuMansion buddy-logo-guy-thingy that we have to put up on all of the banners we make.
But, as Fowler stated, be original and whacky with what you want to make.... don't just look at a promotion forum, and try to copy what it looks like; make something up in your imagination and then plan it out yourself on your forum.

That's stupid. How can they dominate without any forum to advertise? That defeats the purpose of them.

But I'm sure that there will be people willing to discuss their favourite pastimes and discussing problems for a loooong time to come, so forums for those things will exist for a long time to come as well.

I disagree because FP is the only know promotion forum that is has over 200,000 posts and there are only about 5 other promotion forums that are active and doing ok.

For everyone that thinks "another Promotion Forum, not gonna advertise there, will just advertise at FP", I must say you are very bad Admin's. The smart Admin, will take every oppurtunity they can get. One such reputable admin is theezy, I dont know how many times I have seen his Ad's for Wober, the same Achievement thread posted in every Promotion Forum I have been on. Just think about it, if an Admin of "just another promotion forum" brings a few friends to his forum, a few people unique to the promotion scene, they could very well find your site great, signup and become a very active member.

I do agree, but for the moment I don't have time to rapidly go around the advertising forums. FP seems to bring in enough activity for the moment, but I'll probably go epic-advertiser once semester finishes. 😛

• Have at least 1 unique service.
• Have a awesome style.

I advise you wait until you're sure this is something you wanna try and do.

As said, with all the advert forums etc, you're basically making something that's overstocked as it is.

I would die before having to use paid hosting. As it is I am needing to pay memberships for a few sites for my site (To download stuff). Everything else apart from the 'you have money' is well said. 🙂
