People think that because there's padding it's less of a sport than it could be. American Football has many more major injuries compared to Rugby simply because of what is legal and illegal when it comes to tackling (obviously with padding we're gonna have more leeway here). Rugby players end up with more cuts and bruises than football players, however.

The only reason football isn't illegal today is because of its padding. If there was no padding there are arguments that suggest the sport would be illegal.

Rugby players get broken fingers, noses, etc., whereas football players break bones and have other major damages more frequently.

Imagine playing without padding - there would be many more deaths and irreversible injuries today as well.

That's not to say Rugby isn't a manly sport at all, because I think it is. It was extremely tiring when I played in high school overseas.

Hurling. They used to show this on tv in Canada on Sunday mornings all the time. I have forgot about this sport until the showed a special again awhile back.

These guys are athletes.
