Manual backups are important and advisable. I always keep manual backups for my websites every fortnight.
About every week. It comes in handy for more than just peace of mind.
Those of you who perform manual backups, is it just the database, or everything?
Databases are generally the most problematic to fix when exploited, but I tend to just back up everything in the event there's total data loss. It's nice to know that if everything just went poof, you can get it all back up and running pretty quickly.
The downside is backing up everything often takes an order of magnitude more time.
