Megaupload gone!

I heard a lot of free file hosting services now are I.P. blocking US users from using their free file hosting, but I think it won't be very effective since people can use Proxy and VPN which are not located in the US to mask their location.

Also most of filehosts have closed their affiliate programs and now some of them are also banning/locking user accounts too without any notice, bad for people who buy premium from them.

Things like Filesonic which is mainly a NZ company have now banned uploading games and videos and songs too I believe!

almost can't believe Kim Dotcom was also MEGARACER thats number 1 in COD 😀

OMG now we have to go to that ulta-secret site DEMONOID!
hahaha yo bro wanna invite to DEMONOID? Its like a private tracker I think even though anyone can go on it and registration is constantly open. It like lives in your pants or something. Its so legit.

TPB is unlikely to go down seeing as it is based in Sweden, many companies have brought them to court, but the owners are legal experts, so they know that what they're doing isnt illegal in sweden.

Here (Sweden) uploading isn't illegal till someone downloads the file and it is then the uploader that has the issue as downloading is not against the law.

Yeah exactly, and since the TPB owners arent the ones uploading the files, they get away with it : 😎

Yes clearly their owners are oh so intelligent considering they've all been sentenced to jail. I want TPB to go down simply because it brings unwanted attention, and well it's a pretty bad tracker 😛.

They are intelligent. Anyway, its still there isnt it? :great:

Ok they're intelligent, but not smart enough to get out of jail time. Whoopdie doo the site is still up I wouldn't care if I got sentenced. In any case it will happen, it wont make a damn difference but just because its an icon doesn't mean it'll last forever, Limewire was considered eternal for years and now its just a memory, at least officially.

This used to be the host for all my phpBB modifications. I hope it will get back online. Blocking it will just make the pirates go to other hosts. They better gave them a warning to force them taking a anti-piracy team or something.

I've spent some time to research and compile this list. Megaupload was one of the best file hosting sites, fast speeds, unlimited downloads during happy hours, large storage limits, etc. I made a list of real alternatives to megaupload. Only sites with minimal restrictions for downloading, large storage limits, and high popularity/reliability are listed here. The Alexa rank for those who are unfamiliar, is an indicator of how popular a site is, I included it to distinguish the popular/reliable sites from new unproven sites. This list only has sites that don't pay money for downloads, most of those types of sites like filesonic, fileserve, etc. are already closed.

http://jumbofiles.com
Benefits: 500GB storage space, unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer, remote http upload, FTP upload
Alexa rank: (4977) friend introduced me to this site last month, great features, still using them today.

http://fileflyer.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 2GB file size, no file manager, only 1 download at a time (no parallel downloading)
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (22513) not as popular as the other sites here but they are seemingly owned by makers of the popular Download Accelerator Plus.

http://2shared.com
Benefits: Unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit, no file manager
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer, can search files
Alexa rank: (3397) I love being able to search the files at this site and you can "watch" what files are being downloaded.

http://zshare.net
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 1GB file size limit, 50 seconds timer, only 1 download at a time, download accelerator support
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (1947) one of the oldest file hosting sites online since 2005, still using them today.

http://ifile.it
Benefits: Unlimited storage space, up to 2 parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads
Restrictions: 300MB file size limit, have to enter ReCAPTCHA to download
Other positives: No timer
Alexa rank: (2594) got a nice file manager, I don't use them that much now after they started requiring ReCAPTCHA to download.

http://sendspace.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space
Restrictions: 500MB file size limit, only 1 download at a time
Other positives: No CAPTCHA, no timer
Alexa rank: (1385) downloads are limited and slow but they have Android and iPhone apps available for their site.

http://mediafire.com
Benefits: Unlimited storage space, unlimited parallel downloads, can resume broken downloads, download accelerator support
Restrictions: 200MB file size limit
Other positives: Fast downloads, I can max out my 6mbps DSL!
Alexa rank: (67) the next biggest file hosting site after megaupload, very popular and trusted by many users around the world, I upload to here regularly.

If you know of any other file hosting site with below 5000 Alexa ranking, minimal download restrictions, and large storage space, let me know so I can update this list. Real alternatives only, not sites like rapidshare with 5 minute timers and hours of wait time between downloads.

Sendspace is terrible. They delete the files very fast.

EDIT: Though if you just want to send a file to somebody else, I guess it's good. If you're looking to share, it isn't good.
