Members Habits You Hate

Probably when members treat me as god. I'll rephrase, 1 member treats me like god.

He bugs me on MSN, im's me out of nowhere with 'lol', and bugs me about certain things that mean nothing to a regular member.

I hate when member's come, be at your forum for a week, spam and act like they are the best, ask for an Admin position, get rejected and leave, and then come back and do it over again.

Had this happen a few times..annoying as hell.

You know what I really hate? The "Make me a moderator" threads.

I have actually responded on one of those with,

The Magic 8 Ball says don't count on it.

Before I am able to lock those threads, some interesting disputes start on it. For instance, a lot of people shun the member who makes it, but believes they should be moderators themselves. While some say that all of them should shut up and let me choose who I think is best.

While I do like the latter group for supporting me, I would really like it if all of them would shut up, leave the thread alone, and let me lock it. I love my communities and everything...but. I REALLY REALLY hate those threads.

Exactly. Someone makes a thread asking for mod, members post shun them, and say "I'd have a better chance..I've been here longer"

I see where you're coming from too, members reply thinking they may be helping (and it might actually be their only intention- to help), but they only make it worse.

An annoying thing that happened to me just a bit ago, I Super Mod on a support forum for a forum host. one member said in the ChatterBox and says

"6 staff online and 5 users.........online in last 24 hours, doesn't seem right!"

Which makes me believe he's displeased with me as staff, because I'm the latest staff to get added, and he wasn't chosen for the position.

Yeah pretty much. I always dread those threads because it brings out a new side to my community (one that I don't like.)

Yeah, I've gotten hated for being promoted, because someone else "got the shaft", and really thought they'd get the position. Not fair to criticize someone for getting a promotion either. And honestly, waiting a bit longer for your chance will likely see you promoted. While getting annoyed about the person who was promoted and making a fuss on it will likely permanently ruin the chance.

Constant use of text speak as used on a cell/mobile phone.

Yes, we call it SMS-text. English is not my native language. Still i do my best to post correctly. I hate SMS text. I banned many members who were posting one-liners and sms-text on good programming topics. (Besides these lazy people rarely contribute to discussion).

And then when you warn them you get replies like:

but its teh internetz! not school! u arent my english teacher. why r u so serious on an internet forum?

There are two reasons why I'm really, really strict on chat speak and leet:

1. It's a writers' forum: we expect that everyone has decent spelling and grammar. Chat speak is annoying to read as well.
2. I've been on forums without such rules and I like to boast their admins that at least my members have basic literacy skills. 😛

I understand forums having a ''laid back'' community with no rules against proper spelling and grammar, but I think that staff at the very least should make an attempt at writing proper English.

Yeah, because they represent your site. You don't want to have, no offense, retarded sounding people on the staff. the president doesn't go around, "Yo dawg, you got that chedda fo' my wizzle fo shizzle...", does he? O-o I hope not, I would un-vote Obama.
I hate it when members come in, get to know you get on some assholes forum and never talks to you again and bans you because he/she wants to side with the admin to keep his staff spot.
