Most secure forum software?

So what do you think is the most secure forum software?

I think it is SMF due to all their anti spam tools and great modcp.

There's no real "Most secure software" i mean it can all be cracked, it's just about the time and if anyone wants to do it.

So the real question should be, "the software which takes the longest to crack".

My list would be exactly the same as thewebtower 😉.

IPB has about 1 or 2 non-public exploits right now, vBulletin has several more. phpBB, last time I checked, had 6ish.

The only software that I know of with 0 non-public (underground) exploits is MyBB, but then look again at the types of sites that run it... *cough*

It's hard to say anything has 0 unknown exploits, because if someone discovered one they wouldn't tell you. As with all things someone will eventually find ane xploit though, it's just inevitable.

I agree with your post. Sure, HF running Mybb may bring some exploits but it does have some pros to it. One being that it hasn't been hacked(it was hacked last year but it was because of another script and not Mybb).

But let's be real, there's no security proof forum software. If you have the time and experience then you can make any exploit for any software.

Well, if anyone can find a way to hack any of the major forum software's, we can rule that one out. Other than that, pretty much all are secure enough to go live.

I know one MyBB forum I know that was hacked... then again the admin told his girlfriend the password, they broke up and she told one of his rival admins. He logged in... I'll leave it at that.

But yeah, MyBB is pretty damn secure right now. There are plenty of security plugins if you are paranoid too 😛

All forums are prone to hacking, just take basic measures, regular backups and you'll be fine.

Interesting. If you password wasn't compromised, try running kb_scan.php. And also post in on the support forums. They might have to fix the vulnerability before RC2 is publicly released.

The people who know think it was one of the staff members at the host site i was using. this person gained access to root and then decided to mess with our database.

Apparently another SMF board was hacked aswell.
