Name 4 Features PHPBB has that SMF 2.0 doesn't

Does that mean it's only in it's second major version? phpBB3 is in it's third and is very powerful and security tight. phpBB is better than SMF, easily.
Actually if we look back at SMF:
SMF came ported from a long list of previous projects started by Zef Hemel. Starting with RobBoard, which evolved into YaBB. YaBB, because of its license, could be forked (and the fork be sold!) into another software. Many forks were made, such as YaBB Splinter Edition, YaBB Light Edition, and YaBB Platinum. YaBB Splinter Edition was the one SMF wished to use. YaBB SE (for short) was forked into SMF and a public beta was released in early 2003. Since then, there have been 3 major installments of SMF: 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. Looking back at the history of SMF there have been even more major installments such as YaBB 1, YaBB 2, YaBB SE 1, YaBB SE 1.5.

Also, SMF forums rarely get hacked (not cracked) in the current version.

Well it is fanboyism at the end of the day, really.

I actually was brought up SMF. This was back in the 1.0 days where MyBB wasn't prominent yet and phpBB 2 was still there and being the Internet Explorer of forum software as it once was (unlike before, at least they care somewhat now). The downfall really affected me because two of my friends were some of the SMF staff members who left.

1) Bookmarks
2) Post Drafts
3) "Your Posts" <- Some feel it's superior to 'show new replies'
4) MX Registry checking
5) Session fingerprint management
6) Rank titles separate from access
7) Does not have the bug where textareas get blanked in Firefox >_>

...I could go on. phpBB sucks, yes. SMF runs circles around phpBB's permissions control. But phpBB does have a number of things SMF 2.0 lacks.

MyBB has 1-6, not really sure what 7 is.

It was features that phpBB has that SMF lacked, #7 is a bug in SMF so it of course is not relevant to MyBB. I could list features that phpBB has over MyBB specifically (fully engine independent schema, etc) - no one major forum software -completely- dominates all else.

Wow... You did it. I wouldn't count the bug, but you still got it. Paying now.

Haha, I was wondering, though I wasn't expecting 😛

You were asking it when saying 'four features' though. For a massive roleplaying forum with a lot of boards, decent Sphinx support, permission profiles, scalability support, and rapid mass-member management all drastically outweigh what phpBB has to offer - those things can't just be modded in (phpBB's support for Sphinx is horrific, and who does the phpBB dev responsible for it blame? The Sphinx developer).

Nothing on the phpBB advantages list is crucial to running a major community. SMF's advantages, however, are.

One thing that might be worth pointing out is that you are comparing SMF 2.0 which isn't even out yet (still in RC) to phpBB3 which has been out in a stable form for years. When phpBB 3.1 comes out later this year then there will alot more things that phpBB has that SMF 2.0 hasn't.

I'm just trying to prove PHPBB sucks.

SMF is the better software and I have used both extensively. However, both have their merits. If you want to change templates or simply edit the code, phpBB is a little easier, but if you are skilled, you wouldn't notice the difference. SMF is far and away easier to upgrade and customize with mods. Just upload and install, whereas phpBB requires a few manual steps....again not a biggy if you have skills. 😎

phpBB has more themes and mods (more developers working on them), but SMF has a multitude as well, again the quantity is irrelevant.

SMF is faster loading (unless heavily modded). phpBB backlogs SQL queries over time which bogs down load times (but you wouldn't notice unless you had a very huge forum).
