I started a website a month ago with my friend (www.magnoliaroleplays.forumotion.com), and we have a total of fourteen users. Only... *does math* five users are really active, although a couple are finally stepping up and being active. As happy as I am, I still wish we had more people because we have so many ideas we want to use that require more people, like contests.

We just can't get everyone active in promoting.

Now I keep seeing that people don't like forumotion, but I use it because a) it's easy to use and I'm technologically challenged and b) I'm broke.

My friend has posted it in a forum she usually goes to a lot, and it's kind of worked, and I've done some word of mouth advertising, liking every single RP we start on Facebook (as well as making a page and finding some other pages and promoting them), gotten an affiliate, and used a couple of promotion sites, but none of them seem to work. 🙁

I need ideas....

He means a domain that is yours that you own vice a free host.

You have to be patient, get your site out there, start with friends and family ask them what they think of your theme, make adjustments from their feedback. Then, get on a few promo boards, see what folks think. I for one found the green not eye friendly, but I am but one view, ask others.

I am not into role play so I do not understand it but if I wanted to learn, where on your site does a potential member see what to do and how? An about us topic...

Do not harp on stats, get the board going, then shoot for more members. Post exchanges may or may not help it really depends and you need to direct the packager where you want posts. A little trick is request the same packager again, make sure they use the same screen name, it kind of makes them look like a member so long as the posts are good quality.

Good luck 🙂

The free host thing... well, I'm fourteen and I'm broke. That's really all I can say on the matter, and I highly doubt my father would give me money to purchase a domain name. Sorry.

I have been tweaking it according to feedback, and I'm not a hundred percent sure what else I can do. I did want to revamp the site and do a new theme and a new name, but my co-admin likes the green. What part do you not find eye friendly?

We have a couple options. Mostly you look at the forum titles and kind of go through from there, but if you don't understand, I've told my co-admin that we should guide them through it and explain it. We've already had this happen once already.

I'm not a hundred percent sure I understand this part here though about the packager. Could you explain it a little bit differently please?

And thank you so much. 🙂

Sure!,

Here on FP or my own site (see my signature) each offers a service called "Post Packages" That is where you come to a place like FP and post and earn FP cash, you may then use that FP cash to request a post package. The packager joins your board, posts 5, 10, 15 posts based on which package you request.

It's an activity booster. I only suggest you do this from promo sites that have good package team. FP is the largest promo board out here and of course my site phpBBC also does this service. We are not as large as FP but we are a solid site with a super post package team as is here.

There are many promo sites out there that offer this service but I would stick with promo boards that have been around and are active.

You want the package to appear as if the poster is truly a member, you use the service every so often and make sure the same poster and or screen name is used so it looks like that person is a member. You do not want 5 post packagers to come post then never show up again.

Far as domain, it's ok, not everyone can afford or wants a paid domain. So make your site the best it can be. You state you have a team and they like the theme and so do your members, then leave it as is but always take into consideration what perspectives are in case the majority scale tips the other way.

Head over to the index of this site (FP), look for the package service and read what it's about, you may also do the same if you like at my site. Either will take care of you. You may even want to try both.

Good luck, keep at it and if I was help please plus rep me.

Note: The phpBBC link in my signature is broken so you will have to type in the url for phpBBC I have a request into the Admin to fix it. I bought the site in Nov and the previous owners got banned here so FP blocked it. When the owner of FP returns I believe my site link will work by clicking for now you'll have to type it in. I joined FP just before Christmas so with the Holiday it may take some time for them to read their PM's

Thank you so much for your help! I'll ask for this service from your site and FP. 🙂
And as much as I would like to rep you, the site won't let me do so yet. Must be because I'm new. I'm sorry. ):

You would first need a domain name for the website..

Thanks
He already has a domain. A sub-domain. 😉

Domain name? What do you mean?

I believe he means a TLD (Top Level Domain). 🙂 I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Members will join as long as it has a memorable name. I wouldn't suggest formotion though. You would probably be better off in Proboards or Zetaboards. Both have great RP communities as well.

Role-Play forums do die eventually. There's a limit to how long you can pull a plot. Good admins archive old stories, and refresh the forum with a new plot at the right time.

There are a lot of ways to get your site out there, here are a few of my ideas:

Make a group on social networks such as Facebook, Myspace things like that.

Come on sites like this and promote your website, as well you can make some posting contests to make others interested.

Like someone above me said here they do posting packages so that really helps you out. If you go on other promotion sites there are usually a place where you can ask for a posting package as well.

good luck!

I myself run a Forumotion Site.

Forumotion allows you to buy a Domain for 1 Year, 1600 credits or 17 dollars in US currency, it isn't much money if you think about it.

Give it time, and your site will take off, be patient and never give up!

Is the domain included?

hmm... I really don't like the free domains like .tk, .co.cc, .cz.cc and etc and also the free forum creating sites like forumansion, freeforums.org and prophpbb and thats the main reason for not registering according to me... hope it helps! 😀

Well, that's your opinion.

Anyway, try to get some posts and do some post packages. Promote to the right audience. It takes time.

You get to choose your own domain, yes.

Mine is currently.

www.animegalaxy.org <---- Click at your own risk, its dreadful.

So yeah, and you can use the credits to totally customize the site in a way you want.

It's been open 1 month and you have 1.7k posts + 5 active members. I'd be grateful If I were you, although it isn't as great as some forums. Keep going at the rate you are going and get some more friends involved.

Keep at it, if you have a FB or Google+ page, share a couple of posts form your site there, you will get some visits for sure. Not saying 100s but such a technique has worked for us.

Get your banner out there, start with FP services and a few others like phpBBC http://www.phpbbcommunites.com

Keep updating your forum status here as well in the Basic Promotion of FP http://forumpromotion.net/viewforum.php?f=3 keep a positive spin in that section, updating us on site changes, member increases, contests etc.

Best Wishes!

As I have just opened one myself. Role play forums are really hard to get active. I have a few tips for you.

1) Join up @ http://www.rpg-directory.com/ and advertise, read tips ect.. there.

2) Also read about how visiting other roleplay forums and advertising as a guest can help @ http://www.rpg-directory.com/index.php? ... ert-posts/

Hope those two tips help. The second article is a really useful read. Advertising role play forums on promotion sites do not tend to work.

@ Gaf

you sir are a life savior for me, even though this isn't my thread XD
