It's absolutely horrible that this has happened, I think that the people involved with the oil rig should all go to jail. Not only is oil going into the ocean, but it's killing countless animals and plants.
It also keeps getting worse by the second, these bongle heads should have thought ahead and had a plan if this did happen. Not to mention, what kind of idiot makes it in the middle of the water? If it was on land then it would probably not be a big deal at all.

1. Many of the people on the oil rig died as a result of the explosion. So they can't really go to jail.

I believe that in response to this oil spill:
1. The government should open up new, less dangerous, areas for oil drilling. This includes shallow water and land areas. These would have just as much red tape as current areas.
2. Regulators should mandate that your blowout preventer must be rated for the waters you are drilling in and further measures must be taken for safety if, and only if, you chose to drill in deep waters.
3. British Petroleum must be liable for all damages, but the payments they make should be left for the legal system to decide.
4. The government should gather together experts from around the industry to debate methods for cleaning up the oil spill. Also the EPA should hurry approval of methods as much as they can.
5. We all know BP did it, so therefore the blame game should start only after the oil spill is dealt with or brought under control to a much better degree.

The main reason that they found the oil there is simply that. It was there and wasn't in land.
Or even better, move tax cuts to benefit other energy sources (especially the wind ones), like solar, hydroelectric, wind, or what have you. Really, this is why regulations and inspection is the necessary evil in all this.

Alternative energy does not exist yet (with the exception of nuclear power, which is regulator much more than coal). Sure, I don't mind if private investors like Al Gore were to invest in alternative energies, but until these very smart liberals come up with these solutions, we are stuck with coal. it's a fact of life. Obama is a millionaire. Al Gore is a millionaire. all these people have serious doe. They should invest it in these alternative energy sources.

They don't have to use government to get these things done. They can put their money where their mouthes are and engage in this little thing called capitalism.

Ironic how this oil rig was on of the deepest, if not the deepest. If liberals allowed drilling much closer to shore, it would have been much easier to fix. Though if conservatives didn't push offshore drilling, none of this were to happen.
