What the f*ck?

Alright this is why I wanted Ron Paul for at least some of his ideals. If people weren't born as U.S. citizens but needed to earn the right we wouldn't have these idiot hypocrites running around.

Seriously that means everything that is public domain is also piracy... thanks for some more BS MAFFIA or whoever is behind this.

IMO Open Source is no way in any form piracy or should be related to piracy. About 18 Million people use some type of linux distro, so would the automatically be put in jail, because they are using an Open Source program that was built and developed and was offered free by the Author. If something is offered free, then let it be free.

Lol, the RIAA was going on about this the other day at some press conference. Apparently they think that open source software tips the balance of the markets and promotes piracy / lack of competition. They claim that open source software is hurting development, when it's really only hurting their personal profits. I've even heard of them trying to get countries that promote open source put on the UN's international warning lists (like Sweden was for allowing TPB to operate).

Bottom line is simple, they see it as a threat to their profits, nothing more. This, if anything, is proof that they are far more focused on their wallets than the future development of the human race. Bastards.

And if you want to get down and dirty with statistics, everyone with a computer has committed piracy at least once.

That's alot of people that would goto jail.

Yep, as if open source software is something we need to worry about with everything that's wrong with this country.

Texas is like, the birth center of retarded ideas and laws.
I thought it was the Democratic National Convention.

As for the subject at hand, bull crap. Open source is free. The developer es essencially giving up some of their rights to the software.

Mozilla Firefox is open-source. And how many people use it?
Thousands, even millions. I use it, also. Throw me in jail. I'll sue your sideways ass off, IIAA.

Piracy is a joke. Unfortunately, it isn't the funny one.

Definition of Piracy: Copyright infringement (or copyright violation) is the unauthorized use of material that is covered by copyright law, in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.

Reproduction of one's creations. Anything digital can be copied or manipulated. Anything man has created, another man can destroy or make a replica of. Consider this: When you listen to a song, after about 5 times, you can usually repeat the song in your head. You have just committed piracy. The song has been copied into your head. Who is to say that that is legal, but copying it in physical form is not?

Also, it is so hard to track something that has been copied in digital form. As many of you know, you can mask a file as say, a text file, or a jpg file. How can they monitor this and limit it? In order to actually stop piracy, they would have to shut off the internet globally, which would drastically dent evolution. Even if they did that, they would still have piracy because many people have computers and can copy discs at will, pending they have the programs to do so.

In a sense, the government would have to go to every single house in the country and take every computer, every tape dubber, every dvd copier, every VCR, every pen, anything that can be used to copy another piece of data, and do what with it? Surely, if they keep it, people would retaliate. They would have to hide it or destroy it.

Stopping piracy is pointless. Restrictions on digital media only affect the user who buys it, not the user who pirates it. IMO, I don't think piracy will ever stop unless the government just ignores it, and pretty much lets them do it. Eventually it will get boring and people will want the original copy of things more if they don't get restrictions on it. DVD's are pretty much useless. When they first came out, they were so nice. You could go through little mazes on the menu. Now they are filled with junk and previews that you are forced to watch that it is pointless to even buy them.

This is just getting out of control, someone needs to do something here. We are in the middle of a recession, people have tight budgets, loosing work etc. and are always looking at cutting costs where ever available. This is why Open Source is so brilliant, it's free, developed by people around the world who use it and not greedy corporations who just care about being as far in the green profits for bonuses at the end of the year.

So would this mean that Linux gets marked down as being a threat to Microsoft and Apple? It's like "So you aren't charging for your software? Fine, you will be marked down as piracy", this crap makes me sick. As Leo stated, they need to stop thinking about profits and what actually is beneficial to all of us.

Chucking ina good example here, at work we have nothing but problems with Microsoft Office, but Open Office always works like a charm, but then again, ooo is free and is therefore hurting Microsoft's profits and market, therefore I'm in piracy, woo I'm a pirate! Arrrgh me hearties!

Microsoft wanting to look for another quick profit?

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit/64bit) is currently the #1 most seeded Application under Windows Applications on Pirate Bay.

Cut out open source? Expect those numbers to grow. Making open source classified as piracy will not stop piracy, only make it grow.

So basically in essence, the lobbyists and companies trying to make this thing pass will only hurt themselves.

Exactly, but nothing will change. The companies are too focused on making peoples lives hell.
