It's good that he's finally dead, though there's probably someone who will "replace" him as the leader of Al Qaeda.
Oh come on. Let's be fair here, many of the messes the US cause are totally deliberate, others are from greed, and others are simply from no care about what happens off of American soil.Gimgak said:You mean the messes we cause in the first place many years before we notice them?dan213 said:Snobothehobo said:The Americans are the real terrorists.
We are terrorists until America's help is needed to clean up some other countries mess, than we are teddy bears.
Believe me, Theezy. You'd be the first to scream and complain if any of your rights were taken away, no matter what provoked it.theezy said:Of course you have those extreme human rights type people (who would /for example/ rent a 5 star hotel room for the man who rapes and kills their entire family.. while he waits for his court date) who think he should have been spared, but that is to be expected.
MissTake said:I don't know if you guys are getting the same coverage in the states but over here there is some outrage as it appears the story has been changed significantly? Everything we were lead to believe in the beginning about the raid has now been altered to a totally different version.
This does not make Obama look good! People are questioning the moral, ethical and legal way in which it's been done and the answers are now being altered to suit the situation that the US government now find themselves in.
I think initially Obama expected everyone to just whoop with joy and ask no questions but now that's backfired and when the finer details have been revealed there are awkward questions they just can't dodge.
Terrorists don't deserve rights. Especially this one. They need to be exterminated swiftly and without hesitation.Sayf Udeen said:Believe me, Theezy. Rights aren't rights for some and privledges for others. Rights are rights. If your countrymen are going to be a pain in the arse about their rights and even defend rights that don't make sense because it's their 'right' (to bear arms, is a good example - but that's another topic) then it's shear hypocrisy to be okay with someone else's rights being stripped in any instance. Any good patriot would know that, one would think.
(Wow - I said rights a lot.)
The right to a fair trial - if it's truly a fundamental right, then it's a fundamental right for everyone no matter what.
You do realise the definition of 'terrorist' varies from person to person, thus the need for a trial. Sure, Osama was a killer, but Bush is also (And I'd certainly call him a terrorist.) Why is he still free?theezy said:Terrorists don't deserve rights. Especially this one. They need to be exterminated swiftly and without hesitation.
I'd be happy if bush was locked away. He ran this country into the ground and pissed off the world.Sayf Udeen said:You do realise the definition of 'terrorist' varies from person to person, thus the need for a trial. Rights are rights, for a reason. There's no changing that.
Except rights are privileges that can be taken away at any time. But anyhow I'm not the best person to explain this so I'll leave everyone in capable hands.Sayf Udeen said:Rights are rights, for a reason. There's no changing that.
How do you know that?CrashRX said:Good riddance. That bastard should've been killed a long time ago but nobody knew where his hiding spot was back then.

You might think osama deserved rights but he is dead and gone and nothing is going to change that.
His only rights now are his rights to rot.

You might think it's okay to wave rights based on who someone is, but the second it ever happens to an American citizen (now matter how evil he/she is) all of a sudden it will matter.theezy said:You might think osama deserved rights but he is dead and gone and nothing is going to change that.

Governor Bush did nothing but curb our civil liberties. Taking away civil liberties is never justifiable even during war.Nathan said:I don't think it's fair to call Bush a terrorist, after all he was just doing his job as a president which is to keep the Country safe by any means necessary. Just like Gillard would do for us.
Sayf Udeen said:By any means necessary does not equate to the excess he went to, Nathan. Civilian targets are always unecessary and unethical.
Legally there has to be a specific definition, otherwise the law cannot exist.
"Angus Martyn in a briefing paper for the Australian Parliament has stated that "The international community has never succeeded in developing an accepted comprehensive definition of terrorism."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitions_of_terrorism
"no one definition of terrorism has gained universal acceptance".
"Premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience."
(Bush = Just as guilty, on this, however.)

Uh huh. Look, unless you're going to start taking things here seriously, I think I'll stop wasting my time trying to debate with you in the debates forum.Nathan said:I didn't ask what Wikipedia thinks, any bimbo can edit Wikipedia
Obviously...Nathan said:I would have no idea what Bush did so I dunno nor do I care.
I find it laughable that you're trying to compare Bush to Osama. Maybe you're right, there's no one true definition of terrorism, but if you'd keep things in context and stop trying to be so literal then it's obvious that the word "terrorist" applies to Osama here in a much different and distinguishable (and extreme) way than it does to Bush.Sayf Udeen said:I find it laughable that's the only part you'd comment on.
I'm not going to speak for theezy, but I highly, highly doubt that if an American as evil as Osama bin Laden were to be killed by the government like this his opinion on the matter wouldn't change, and I don't see any evidence to suggest that it would. You might think it's okay to wave rights based on who someone is, but the second it ever happens to an American citizen (now matter how evil he/she is) all of a sudden it will matter.

Exactly. If we had someone like osama in our coutry and he went into hiding, we'd find him and take him out just the same.Hobbies230 said:I'm not going to speak for theezy, but I highly, highly doubt that if an American as evil as Osama bin Laden were to be killed by the government like this his opinion on the matter wouldn't change, and I don't see any evidence to suggest that it would. You might think it's okay to wave rights based on who someone is, but the second it ever happens to an American citizen (now matter how evil he/she is) all of a sudden it will matter.

Mine sure as hell wouldn't.
Your just seeing this now? Have you been living under a rock?Sayf Udeen said:So you'd wave an Americans rights too?

In the words of John Stuart Mill, "the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others."Sayf Udeen said:So you'd wave an Americans rights too?

Apparently. :great:
Also if you are going to challenge the police, not cooperate, attempt to grab a gun, have your wife charge at them or anything else hostile, chances are they are going to shoot you. Just thought I'd mention that. 😛
