Which Is Better, PHPBB or XenForo?

Take a side and tell us why you have chosen that side! This is a debate only for these to types of forums, myBB and ZataBoards are not included.

I will be monitoring the chat you have to convince me! remember this is all fun!

As to which is better I voted for Xenforo primarily, favoritism I do like it more, but realistically I can't say that is really the case. PhpBB can have some perks as well as Xenforo. It just comes down to personal preferences and everyone has different preferences some people will like PhpBB over Xenforo and vice versa so you can't really say one is better than the other than simply stating your own opinion because everyone will have them.

I personally do like both software and both have great potential.

It is a split but I really like the functions with XenForo over phpBB. look at how well this XenForo forum looks to phpBB ones haha But we might change that

XenForo is better because they have more features and because it is a paid software, they release patches, bug fixes etc more quickly as they can more easily fund their development. PhpBB on the other hand lacks features and with their release of their new addon system called extensions, they currently only have 210 extensions whereas XenForo has 2168 addons as of now. I have to say that there are some advantages with PhpBB. For example, I thought the PhpBB permissions system was better and I liked the built-in global announcements feature. However, XenForo is much better for the long term because there are more developers who specialise in XenForo since there is a money making opportunity. It is more expensive on XenForo as so many of their addons are paid but if you have the money, then XenForo is the software to go for if you want a modern and advanced forum. Honestly though, unless you can fork out tons and tons of money to build custom features on PhpBB, your options are limited and if you do decide to spent money, then you might as well go on XenForo.

Free stuff are never as good as paid stuff. Otherwise, who would go for the paid option?

I go with XenForo even over IPB. It's just so much fun to use and the customization abilities are amazing. I one time had phpbb, never again!

phpBB has smaller avatars then XenForo, but as long as you don't mind putting in mods then I cannot see how XenForo is much better than phpBB. Ultimately, it depends on what look you want. Myself, I'm sort of sick of XenForo so I started using MyBB.

PhpBB is junk in my opinion. I hate it overall. I mean it use to be good, but the newer forums are way better. Xenforo being better than the rest. My own forum is custom though 🙂

I wouldn't be so sure. Some of the premium themes out there are outstanding. In fact, unfortunately, the people who make the themes won't make the same ones for XenForo, not even for extra money. Also, phpBB has the mods or they can be developed to make it as good as XenForo.

Still why would you make Phpbb into something like XenForo. Why not just go and get Xenforo
