I currently have a dead forum and I am wondering if I should convert the mybb over to phpbb and just restart. We haven't got very far and I've noticed that more features are available for use with phpbb. What should I do?

Taz said:Yes thats the real issue with phpbb. Mybb plugins are really to use and they work with almost any theme.
If you are trying to install a mod, most of the time it screws up and sometimes its not compatitble with some themes. I mean if you know how to code then it shouldn't be a problem because you know what each line of code means and such.Zaborg said:How exactly are phpBB mods an issue? Explain please.

I currently had one with Mybb and VB forums.

Forum Promotion is running on Phpbb not Mybb. 😉

- What does switching software really gain you?
(How many features, that you'll actually use, will you gain? Versus how many features, that you used, from MyBB wil you lose? And how many features, from either software, can be replicated? So if you stick with MyBB can the features you want from phpBB be implemented through a mod?)
- How much work will it be to switch?
(I don't know if you're planning to convert database or just start over, but if you're going to convert... Have you ever done a database conversion before? Have you ever used phpBB before? If not I suggest setting up a test forum and just trying the software out. There's no point is transferring everything over only to find out you don't like how phpBB's ACP is set up or that installing mods is too complicated.)
- Why did your forum die in the first place?
(Because honestly if you don't figure out why this happened to begin with then the same thing will likely happen with your newly rebooted/remade forum even if it did change software. The quote "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" comes to mind.)
I don't mean that you shouldn't switch. I just think you should be sure that switching will really benefit and be the best for you so that you don't waste time and effort doing something that won't make you happy and won't help your forum at all.
