PhpBB2

Because it can be styled more, there are much better skins avaliable for phpBB3. phpBB has a better Admin CP, with more functions like custom BBcode, and easier permissions/forum consructor. There is a wide consistantly updated community of MODs. phpBB3 is more up to date and protected agains bugs - phpBB2 is not updated anymore, neither is it skinned.

Thats basicly what all of us where gonna say. So thanks for posting it, but yea thats basicly it.

Also I like to mention that phpBB2 is no longer support on phpbb.com.

I have used both for quite a long time (this forum started off on phpBB2 but i upgraded it when phpBB3 was in the early RC stages).

phpBB3 is much better overall as it looks better and the acp is much more organised and alot of new features have been added by default so there is less moding needed. Also with the module system, adding mods is easier as rather then editing files you can just add a new module and that takes all of a few seconds.

I still haven't got the hang of them and i have been using phpBB3 for well over a year now -lol-

Great,thanks,my forum is on phpbb2,and i can't find a good template,so may switch to phpbb3.

It is not more protected against bugs... It is more protected from spammers and it is more secure but there will b bugs with any software so it is hard to protect something against bugs.

Also, phpBB2 is no longer available for paid. Only free forum hosts provide phpBB2 now.

The ACP of phpBB3 is more well organized & you've got many new features in phpBB3, for example warning a user.

No, I mean you don't have to pay for a phpBB2 forum. Maybe there are, but very few hosts that provide paid hosting for phpBB2.

How can you say permissions are easy?! -lol-

they're easy.

just set one forums permissions and then set the others to copy them.

No, I don't think they are easy. I find them very difficult. I instead find IPB's permissions easy.

-?- There is much less work than IPB.
If you're inteligent enough to notice you can get away with only setting the permissions on 1-2 forums. The others can just be copied.
