I know... it sucks. And I don't think there are any major updates to 3.0.7... are there?
Updates may be a pain in the backside, but I always rather be up to date than fall behind on security... it's common for developers to toss in security patches with a "bug fix" release, whether they admit it or not. I can't be bothered to check and see if it's the case, but chances are with the addition on new features there will be some sort of security patches before too long.
When they release a new version shortly after another it usually means there are urgent bug fixes or security patches, doesn't it? Otherwise they would just wait for the next version for minor fixes.

It's usually a signal of it, yes, however it's not something that's for certain. Either way the bottom-line is to always keep current with your software, there's numerous reasons for it. I'm pretty sure every admin here can spare 15-30 minutes during your day to update your forum without too many issues. I hadn't updated phpBB in almost a year, yet it took me about 10 minutes to download the right files and figure it out again 😕

It has been quite a while since phpBB 3.0.6 was released. It was released on Tuesday November 17 2009. That is about 3 and a half months. I think saying it just came out is a bit unfair don't you think? Compared to some other softwares out there, that is a really long time between updates.

Also to rate how good a release it, it doesn't have to come down to features that the update will add. Sometimes what makes a good update if the changing or fixing of annoying things and bugs or slight enhancements on current features.

FP has been updated. Backed up the forum and did the update, uploaded the updated template files and turned the forum online again all within 15 minutes 😀

Thanks Fowler, you're a star 🙂

As other people have mentioned it is a good policy to have your forum running on the latest version of the script. Each new version will have better security features than the previous version and will have plugged holes that hackers have found in the previous versions. In short, being on the latest version reduces the chances of your forum being hacked.

I'm not going to update just yet, I have a style in the making at the moment...

Personally I'd say that's all the more reason to update. There's not much to be gained from having a style designed for an older version of a script. If someone else is designing the style for you, simply tell them you need it to work on the newest version.

ezPromotion was updated last night and everything went smoothly. I always like when forums are running the latest software. Honestly though I can't tell much of a difference. But still, at least were current. 🙂

I upgraded as soon as the upgrade came out, smooth upgrade. Easiest one yet and only took me a few minutes.

I suggest everyone with a phpBB3.0.6 board updates now. :great:

Once it's done, I'll update the whole board as my forum isn't updated yet so I'll do the forum and style together.

I've finally upgraded the forum I'm working on. I just have to wait for Christian Bullock to upgrade the style I need.

Guys , one thing I need to know before I upgrade .

My skin is 3.0.6 compatible ; do I have to update the skin also when I upgrade to 3.0.7 ?

The big thing that I have right now is that my forum has some mods on it, and what I am afraid of and I know will happen is when I do my update like normal ( delete everything but my config file) will lose those mods...

which I guess in the long run it means I will have to just reinstall them to the files that need the editing correct?

Is there a way around having to go through that mess? If not it's ok, and I will take the time to do it, but not really looking forward to that lol.

For my upgrade I had a quite alot of mods and the upgrade worked. There was one mod I had trouble with which was the Karma MOD but then I installed it again. 😛

Karma MOD isn't the one they have here.

If you have a modded forum, you can use the automatic update package.

Download it and unzip the update package
Upload the files to your phpBB root
Go to system in the acp and click the automatic update link
Follow the on-screen instructions and then you will get to the point where it checks tries to see if the changes can be merged successfully. Any files that can't be merged are shown as "Conflict" files (we only had one here) You can then choose to keep the old code in that part of the file or replace the area with the conflict with code from the new file. Keep the old code if that area is code edited by a mod or what happens in most cases is that in the conflict block it is only code which is not related to any mod so then you can select the use new code in the conflict area. It sounds complicated but really when you see the screen it explains it better then me and you will see what you need to do. I am useless at explaining things.
When your done it will merge the changes and you can download them or ftp them to the right location (download is best and that is what i usually do)
When you downloaded them, just upload them over your current installation and then continue and it will check that all the files have been uploaded and then you are done.

It takes a couple of minutes even with a modded board. Make sure you backup beforehand though!!!!

I've now updated my forum to phpBB 3.0.7-PL1 🙂

Very easy and as far as I know, no errors were detected! 😀
