phpBB3 information

There is. It does fix bugs and it makes it alot easier to update when 3.0.8 is released. If you have no mods or only a handful of mods then it is quite quick to do and worth it really. Plus if you require support, phpBB.com require you to be using the latest release.

Updated the test forum here in less then 5 minutes from start to finish 😀

It is a nice easy update.

There are many features that phpBB3 has that IPB 1.3 doesn't have and phpBB3 does alot of things better the IPB 1.3. Also phpBB3 is alot safer to use and you can only use IPB1.3 on a free host which means you don't have access to add mods. Also is IPB 1.3 supported still by IPB? It isn't. It is massively outdated and same with this first post (it was posted 2 years ago)

for the common worries, i believe number 1 is the only real one, the admin panel is a bit more complicated.

3.0.8-RC1 should be released within the next couple of weeks. Following the RC1 there will probably be a 2nd RC then the final release but it depends on how many bugs are found in the RC's on how many RC's there will be.

Well, i don't know how fast they are at fixing bugs, 47 open, 3 in progress, 156 unverified fixes (Does that mean fixes from members that the codes aren't looked at?) i would say at best a month. But that depends on how fast they are at fixing stuff.

An unverified fix is where once the next release has been released (3.0.8-RC1) the QA and phpBB.com Teams go through the software, check the bug has been fixed and not causing any more issues. Then they click a button that says verify fix and then it goes into closed status.

Alot of those that are open are non-bugs. For e.g. a guy has an issue with his forum, thinks its a bug, reports it then never goes back to look at the ticket. So the .com Team ask the member for more information but he isn't there. Some are bugs but a bug can be just a few words being changed or about a few lines to be re-written. It can take a few seconds to fix a bug.

Also the development team themselves have said RC1 would be released around the end of September about 2-3 weeks ago. Watching the repository its visible they are getting in all the last minute bug fixes before the release. 😉
